Quote for the week:
“How competitive can you be without losing your discipline?"
Practices will occur as normal tonight (Tuesday Jan 29)
No THT Practices tomorrow (Wednesday Jan 30)
Our team treasurer will be at the pool tonight, Tuesday Jan 29th to answer any questions or concern you might have. She will be in the wet classroom from 6:15 until well past 7pm.
Just a reminder, with the cold that we are having, we are in the school corporation building, and follow their rules regarding weather. Should schools be closed for weather, we will not have THT Practices. If there is an early dismissal, there will not be afternoon/evening practices. If there is a school delay, there will be no morning practices. We will try to make sure any delays or cancellations are also announced from the team as soon as possible.
We have a One-Call system that will both call and text people with important information about cancellations. Please take a moment and verify that your info on the website is correct and that you are signed up for the calls and/or texts that you want to receive.
No Practice Thursday, Jan 31 or Saturday, Feb 2
The VCSCAC is hosting the Girls High School Sectional meet later this week, weather permitting. This is a large undertaking, and an honor to be hosted here in town. Because of 11 different teams competing on both days, Torpedoes will not be able to host practices on either of these days.
The meet is fast approaching. We are looking for donations and workers to help the meet run as smoothly as possible. You have received a few emails regarding the meet signup and should have just received one regarding hospitality donations. Please take a moment to look at the website for more info regarding these.
A reminder: Every family is expected to help work our meet, whether your athlete is swimming in the meet or not.
Sycamore Swim Camps
In recently found out that ISU will be holding multiple camps this summer. If we have enough interest from the Torpedoes, they will take some off the registration fee. While they are not cheap experiences, they will be learning a great deal, and many of our swimmers have come back, feeling it was a wonderful experience.
Day Camp June 17-21: 9am-noon
Mon: Fly, Tues: Back, Wed: Breast, Thurs: Free, Fri: Starts and Turns. No finalized a price.
Overnight/commuter camp June 23-28.
Swimmers will check in Sunday afternoon and go home Friday afternoon. No finalized price yet.
End of Season Meets
As we approach the end of the winter season, there will be some meet (championship or otherwise) for your athlete. The meets THT will be attending in order from smallest to biggest:
Pike Last Chance Time Trial: Sunday February 24. This is for all athletes, especially those not yet qualified for the championship meets listed below. This will be a 2 session meet, with 12 and Unders in the morning, and 13 and Overs in the afternoon. This is a great meet for athletes to finish their season, or make that last cut. This meet will mark the end of the season for all athletes not qualifying for the championship meets listed below.
Divisionals: Friday-Sunday Mar 1-3 This is our lowest level championship meet. Qualifying times are required to attend. Relays will be available for athletes already in the meet. This meet will be short course (yards). This meet will happen in Evansville.
Age Group State: Friday-Sunday Mar 8-11 This meet is one of the fastest of it’s type in the country. All swimmers 14 years old and younger will converge to IUPUI and “The Nat” to compete. There are qualifying standards, and is a prelims-finals meet. We have an opportunity to allow some relays, if they have qualified.
Senior State: Friday-Sunday Mar 15-18. This meet is the senior (15 and older) version of the Age Group State meet. This spring, the meet is on campus at IU, and will feature national level athletes from IU, Purdue and many other exceptional college athletes. Qualifying times are required, and there are prelims and finals
Para World Series: Friday - Sunday Apr 4-6 This meet is a chance for international competition for Para athletes, including our very own Evan Austin. They will compete in Indianapolis, and this is part of the selection for the World Championship team that will compete later this year.
*High School Championships: The next few weeks also include many Torpedoes competing in their respective High School Championships. This includes Sectional meets (Girls this week, at the VCSCAC and Boys in 2 weeks in Indy). Athletes that win at his or her Sectional meet, will advance to the State Meet the following weekend, at the IUPUI Natatorium, and compete in one of the fastest high school meets in the country.
Jan 30 and Feb 1: Girls HS Sectional Meet at VCSCAC. No Practices.
Feb 8-10: Arctic Blast Meet.
Feb 11: Deadline for Pike Last Chance Time Trial.
