February 6, 2019
HTAC and Swim Nova Scotia are co-hosting the 2019 David Fry Provincial Swimming Championships. Taking place February 28 to March 3 at Dalplex, we expect 250+ swimmers from across Nova Scotia, Newfoundland, PEI and New Brunswick, along with their coaches, parents and supporters.
Our organizing committee has been preparing for their arrival over the past several weeks. There are many ways you can help make this a success, and we hope we can count on all Trojan members!
The meet package and qualifying standards are available on HTAC.ca
We are looking for volunteers to fill shifts for the canteen and hospitality room. This is also a great opportunity for younger swimmers to see a long course championship meet and be part of the action. Cheering encouraged! Please message firstname.lastname@example.org with interest and availability.
Points – Canteen lead (2 points), Canteen & Hospitality volunteers (1 point per shift)
Timers and officials are needed, as for all swim meets. Please contact Kelley@polycorp.co
with your preferred role and availability. Timers and officials will receive a parking pass to the Dalplex parking lot for Friday. Spectators must use the meters or pay and display ($2 per hour or $16 per day) or find parking on side streets.
Points – Timer (1 point per session), Official (2 points per session)
We will be running a Silent Auction as a team fundraiser from Thursday to Sunday and need some volunteers to help set up the tables, staff the tables during the sessions, and help with gathering payment and distributing items to the successful bidders.
Points – 1 point per session
Bell heats are a fun way to add some excitement throughout the meet. A bell will be run randomly before the start of a heat and the winner of that heat will be eligible for a prize. We are looking for donations of small prizes for (suggestions include $5 gift cards to Subway, Tim Hortons, Pita Pit, and other restaurants; movie cards; water bottles, etc.).
We’ll be hosting a Silent Auction throughout the Championship Swim Meet. In addition to volunteers to staff the silent auction itself, we are also looking for items. We’ve already sourced some items including gift cards to restaurants (Moxie’s, Portland Street Creperie), experiences (Neptune Theatre, Symphony Nova Scotia), wine, special order cupcakes, gym memberships (Zatzman Sportsplex, PUSH Fitness) and an overnight stay at Oak Island Resort. We are looking for more! Contact Fiona at email@example.com
Canteen and Hospitality
For the swimmers qualified for the 2019 David Fry Championship, the training groups have been assigned the following food items:
Atlantic Blue: juice and muffins
Atlantic White: Baked goods and snack items
National: Yogurt and veggies
All groups: Baked goods for the canteen (contact firstname.lastname@example.org for information on packaging requirements for the canteen) OR packaged snacks suitable for officials/coaches/volunteers to eat on deck
If you prefer, you can opt to give money to Leigh and she will purchase what we need.
Swim Meet Program ads
We are producing a meet program and selling ad space. Members who sell ads in the program are credited half of the ad revenue – either as credit to their account or as volunteer points (1 point = $50). For example, members who sell a ½ page ad at $100 would receive $50 credit to their account or earn 1 volunteer point. The remaining portion of the ad sale goes to the team.
Ad rates are: quarter-page (4.25” X 5.5”) - $50, half-page (8.5” X 5.5”) - $100, full-page (8.5” X 11”) - $200. Please send completed black and white ad in high-resolution JPG or PDF to Lorna Bateman at email@example.com by February 21. Payment arrangements for advertisers can be made with Maggie at firstname.lastname@example.org
This is a great opportunity for advertisers to reach active families from Halifax and across Atlantic Canada. A sample request letter is attached.
Swimmers can choose to purchase a 2019 David Fry Championship t-shirt. Pre-order your $25 shirt by emailing email@example.com
