A Note From Coach Tricia
February 26, 2019
Dear EBSC family,
This is very hard for me to write but I want my swim family to know that I was diagnosed with Stage 4 adenocarcinoma of the pancreas on February 21. There is cancer in my liver but the good news is that it has not spread from there. It has been a whirlwind week and it is only by the Grace of God and the love of my close friends and family that I have had so much information and help in such a short period of time. We are devastated, but my family, friends, doctors and nurses have rallied around us and we feel very protected and loved.
On Friday, March 1 I will start my first chemotherapy treatment. I will have a very aggressive chemo regimen on Fridays every two weeks with a scan every 8 weeks to check for progress. This will most likely continue for about 6 months. I am not currently a surgical candidate due to the size and location of the tumors.
The good news is that I feel good except for some back pain. Also, my liver is still functioning 100% (who knew I had a super liver?!) and I'm ready to do what is needed to continue to survive and coach for years to come. It’s only been a few days since I became a cancer patient but I already feel like a survivor because of all the love that is building me up.
I would love to hear from you! I have a Caring Bridge, Meal Train and Go Fund Me sites where you can send me a note or sign up to help with meals, rides, errands, etc. I'm also looking for some company during my chemotherapy treatments!
Peace and love to you all (and keep swimming!)
