This will effect all 12 & under swimmers attending USA Eastern Zones!
Please be aware that the Niagara LSC has decided to implement a
tech suit ban effective 3/11/19 that aligns with USA
Swimming's 2020 12/u tech suit ban.
Any woven fabric tech suit (Speedo LZR Pro) that extends beyond the hip (a kneeskin or jammer) is banned.
If the suit is a knit fabric (like TYR Thresher), that suit is permitted and can be in the jammer or kneeskin form.
Although this was decided by the Niagara LSC in Dec 2018, they failed to communicate it to the Eastern Zone website and to the teams that were in attendance at Zones last year, except for placing the info in the meet annoucement on page 2.
The reasoning for the ban is to create a level playing field for all of the 12/under swimmers at the Zone meet. Some LSC's have a ban, some don't. Therefore, some teams were wearing suits that others were not allowed. The timing and communication of the ban was completely lacking. The exact wording is listed below:
TECH SUIT BAN: Please be aware the Niagara tech suit ban will be in effect. Per Niagara LSC Policy, no Technical Suit may be worn by any 12 & Under USA Swimming athlete member in competition at any Sanctioned, Approved or Observed meet. Exceptions to the foregoing restriction are only for Junior Nationals, US Open, National Championships, and Olympic Trials. • A Technical Suit is one that has the following components: • Any suit with any bonded or taped seams regardless of its fabric or silhouette; or • Any suit with woven fabric extending past the hips. (Note: WOVEN FABRIC-A suit with woven fabric and sewn seams that does not extend below the hips is permitted.) (Note: KNIT FABRIC-A suit with knit fabric and sewn seams not extending below the knees is permitted.)
SUITS THAT ARE KNIT & THEREFORE PERMITTED:
Please note: We are a Speedo Team and you should be wearing a
speedo suit unless there is a fitting issue
Speedo Aquablade (Jammer, Brief, Classic Suit):
The original and still a winner- the Aquablade was the first offering by Speedo in the tech suit market. The fabric is a color color stripe with a very silky feel. A nicely priced introductory suit.
Speedo PowerPlus (Kneeskin):
The new PowerPlus is a good choice for a “first” kneeskin. It offers Speedo’s now famous Comfort Straps. It is easier to get on than most kneeskins and retails for $99, making it one o the more inexpensive kneeskins on the market.
Arena Powerskin ST (Jammer, Kneesuit, Classic Suit):
The Powerskin ST is extremely popular because it is very well priced. The jammer and kneesuit are available in a variety of colors and limited releases of nice prints. Very popular. Note: It runs large.
TYR Fusion (Classic, Knee Suit, Jammer):
TYR's early introduction to the tech suit market is the well-priced Fusion series. It is very similar to Speedo’s Aquablade, but also offers a kneesuit.
TYR Thresher (Jammer, Classic Suit, Kneesuit):
TYR’s Thresher is available in both solid colors and a nice print, Baja. It is beautifully constructed and very well priced. introduction, it is becoming very popular. The Thresher runs large.
