Alberta Spring Championships Report

2019 Alberta Spring Championships is the highest level provincial competition for the first half of the swim season, and we had 4 Silver Tide swimmers in attendance! Well done to Mackenzie Pearson, Henry Mackay, Geno Gaspersz and Olivia Reich! (Photo of Olivia with Olympic finalist Rachel Nicol)

Day 1 Highlight Performance:

  • Olivia Reich - 1500 Freestyle. Our only swim on day 1 was from Olivia in the 1500 where she started the meet off with a bang! Liv dropped 58.09 seconds and earned 2 junior national standards with the swim!

Day 2 Highlight Performance:

  • Geno Gaspersz - 100 Backstroke. Geno swam a very strong second event of the day with his 100 Back where he dropped a massive 11.05 seconds!

Day 3 Highlight Performance:

  • Olivia Reich - 100 Butterfly Final. The top performance of the weekend goes to Liv, swimming to a new club record in a time of 1:05.25. Not only was this a new club record, but it placed her 2nd in the 13-14 age group (as a 13-year-old)!! This time was quick enough that it was under the 13, 14, and 15-year-old Canadian Junior Championship standard.

Day 4 Highlight Performance:

  • Olivia Reich - Back to back to back finals. The last highlight performance of the weekend wasn’t in a single event but rather three in a row. On the last day of racing Liv made a final in all 3 swims, where she came in that night to swim best time performances in 100 Freestyle, 200 Backstroke and 50 Butterfly. It takes huge commitment and dedication to training to pull that together at the end of a long competition!
