EBSC “Out Of The Pool”

Elmbrook Swim Club was recently nominated for a 2019 Engaged in Excellence Award.  These awards are given annually by the Elmbrook School District.  We were nominated in the category of Excellence in a Community Partnership by Dr. Danny Westfahl.  The following was submitted in support of the nomination:

“The Elmbrook Swim Club (EBSC) recently celebrated 50 years of “Excellence in Life Through Swimming”.  Over the course of this half century, a conservative estimate of 5000 athletes have benefitted from the life long lessons of discipline, perseverance, dedication, and camaraderie that can only be experienced through competitive swimming.  Likewise, countless athletes and families have earned college scholarships that would not have been possible without their participation in EBSC.  The Elmbrook Swim Club boasts, of late, high school state champions, national champions, Olympic Trials qualifiers, and a national record holder.  Within the past decade, this list includes world champions, NCAA finalists, and collegiate national champions.  In their 50 year history, EBSC has been the proud contributor to NCAA and international championship teams.  Both Brookfield Central and Brookfield East have significant representation in their Athletic Halls of Fame with athletes from the Elmbrook Swim Club.  Some of these athletes who devoted their childhood to swimming in Brookfield are now parents and partners in the club, with some present swimmers representing third generation competitors.  Elmbrook Swim Club is devoted to helping children achieve their dreams outside of the pool, as well.  “Excellence In Life Through Swimming” is illustrated in the desire to recognize and encourage life balance, and EBSC swimmers are consistently reaching the top echelons of academics and performances, district wide spelling bees and robotics competitions.  A search of the Elmbrook Swim Club website highlights the accomplishments and involvement of swimmers “out of the pool” as well as their tireless work within.  EBSC illustrates a true community partnership, in that 90% of the swimmers and families participating on the club come from Brookfield or Elm Grove.  Lately, Elmbrook has developed “Elmbrook Swim School” (EBSS) to help teach younger children water safety and swimming lessons.  The teachers and participants in EBSS are also community members and devoted residents.  Elmbrook Swim Club is a proud pillar of the Brookfield and Elm Grove Communities, and is highly deserving of the recognition of a positive community partnership.”

Thank you for the nomination, Dr. Westfahl!  And congratulations EBSC!  We have a lot to be proud of!
