NewsWave April 11

Volunteer Appreciation – As was blasted out earlier this week, this week is National Volunteer Week. To show a little appreciation to our volunteers and parent workers for your efforts during a busy short course season, we hope you can stop into the pool classroom during practice tonight for some cake and punch. Thank you for your support and for everything you do for WTSC!

Congratulations – WTSC congratulates Peter LaBarge, who was recently selected to participate in the Indiana Swimming Olympic Development Camp in California later this summer. This is a prestigious camp and we are proud of Peter for earning this opportunity. WTSC also congratulations Logan Parker, who recently committed to Franklin College where he will continue his swimming career in the fall. Logan is one of four WTSC seniors who will swim in college, joining Peter (Tufts University), Ashley Glesing (Eastern Illinois) and Delaney Isakson (St. Louis University). We are proud of our future collegiate student athletes for seeing their hard work pay off and hope to see many more commitments in the future.

Carmel Meet Deadline – We haven’t swum a single length of the pool yet, but we already have a meet signup deadline around the corner. Our in-house deadline for the Carmel Spring Fling (May 3-5 @ Carmel HS) will be this Friday, April 12. Summer meets fill fast so we want the biggest turnout possible for our first meet of the season. Please visit the meet page on our website now to commit to the meet and speak with your group coach if you have questions about this event.

BA Meet Deadline – Our in-house deadline for the BA Early Bird (May 17-19 @ Purdue University) is also coming up fast, with the commitment window closing next Wednesday, April 17. The Early Bird is limited to swimmers age 13 and older and has qualifying times in place (15-16 A cuts). Any qualified swimmers are encouraged to commit to this event and take advantage of this opportunity to race against quality competition including several Big 10 universities. If you are unsure about having the necessary qualifying times, please speak with Coach Josh or your group coach.

Long Course Meet Schedule – The Carmel and BA meets and all additional meets for the upcoming long course season have been added to the club website. All away meets are subject to our acceptance into the field by the host team but, please use the dates for planning purposes. Also, please note the June 14-16 weekend, which is the date of our WTSC Fathers’ Day Invite. This is our only hosted meet of the season and subject to the worker policy described in your registration materials.

Officials Clinic – WTSC will host an officials clinic on Saturday, April 20 from 8-11am at the NC Natatorium. This clinic is for all current officials and anyone interested in becoming an official. Please contact Heather Baker Smith for more information.

Snap Raise – As previously communicated, WTSC is embarking on a Snap! Raise fundraising campaign. This is a simple but effective means of generating resources for the club to use on a variety of programs and we want to see all WTSC swimmers participate! Swimmers are encouraged to submit their list of 40 email contacts to their group coaches by April 13 for a chance to win a Speedo bag packed with prizes, including a $100 gift card to Making Waves. Please speak with Jennifer Buddenbaum if you have questions about the Snap! Raise campaign.

Membership Meeting – Please note Saturday, April 27 (9am) on your calendars for an important Membership Meeting. This meeting will include the introduction of a new WTSC marketing campaign, further discussion of our fundraising efforts and incentives as well as required Safe Sport programming for all WTSC parents and swimmers. Donuts, juice and coffee will be provided by the club and every swimmer in attendance will receive a WTSC gift. Please save-the-date for this important club event and we will see you on April 27.

Summer Programming – Please help us spread the word about two upcoming programs, our summer Riptides session as well as our Summer League Prep package. These programs are perfect to bring new swimmers to WTSC and word-of-mouth is our most effective recruiting tool. Information about both programs is on the WTSC website, and you can speak with Coach Josh or Jennifer Buddenbaum if you have questions about either program.
