News and Notes

Welcome to our weekly News and Notes new FCYST families!!  Please read through them each week as this is how we share all the wonderful things going on with our team and any changes.  If you have any questions, please reach out!  We are happy to help.  You can also find recent News and Notes on the Homepage of our website located in the News tab on top of the screen or on the lower right section of the Homepage.

Last week was an awesome first week of practice for all returning athletes!  We also had 16 athletes attend the Trial Week.  It was great to see all the swimmers back in the pool with their friends, laughing, smiling and catching up from a month away from the pool and making new friends within their new groups.

On Sunday, a few of our older swimmers participated in the Big Blue Special Olympic Swim Meet.  This was an incredible event that allowed our swimmers to compete on relay teams with local Special Olympic swim teams and share the love of swimming with other athletes in the area.  Many new relationships were formed and we saw countless smiles, high fives, fist bumps and hugs!  It was a great morning for our older athletes!

News

-Practice Changes:  Please note the changes in our practice schedule over the next few weeks.

  • Friday, May 10 and Saturday, May 11:  There will be no practices for any of our practice groups as FCYST is attending the Mayfly Swim Meet at Appleton North

-Team Hosted Summer Meets:  Our swim team hosts 2 swim meets during our Long Course Season.  Both meets are held at the Erb Park Pool.  A reminder that all families are responsible to fulfil their Service Hours Requirements per our team policy that everyone signed during registration.  These swim meets are a huge source of revenue for our team and everyone’s help is needed to run these successful swim meets.  The two meets we host are the Summer Classic, June 15-16, and the Bird Bath Invitational, July 5-7.  Please mark those dates on your calendars.  These meets are always a lot of fun and a great way to meet new families and build new relationships not only within our team, but also the swimming community.  A list of all our summer swim meets can be found our team website.

-Swim Meet Deadlines:  Please pay close attention when looking at the swim meet schedule to the deadlines that FCYST is requiring families to commit to attend.  Take a look on our Events and Meet section of the website and start to commit to the swim meets now so you are not left out.  Hotel block information is also posted to the away meets.  Please make your reservations now so you do not miss out on the discounted room rate.  If you have questions about what meets your swimmer should participate in, please ask their coach.

  • Pirate Plunge at Schroeder, May 31 – June 2:  Deadline to commit is Monday, May 6th.  This meet was a really fun, exciting and great meet for our team last year.  We encouraged all FCYST swimmers to wear “pirate apparel” to create a little more enthusiasm for our team.  We encourage all swimming this year to participate in the fun again!

-Facebook Page:  Our swim team has a Facebook page for those who are new to the team.  Search FCYST and ask to be added.  An admin has to approve your request, so please be patient.

-Google Group Emails:  Family members are encouraged to sign up for the "FCYST Families" email list. This is an excellent way to communicate with others and have informal discussions about the team, swimming, traveling to meets, etc.  All official FCYST news will still come through Team Unify or the Swim Team Office. When signing up for this group email group, you MUST provide your name and your athletes’ names in order to be added to the list.

-Equipment:  We are asking all FCYST swimmers to have their own pair of flippers this season.  With the size of our groups and with all of our groups practicing at Erb and Lawrence University this summer, we would like all our swimmers to have a pair and bring them to practice every day.  We have all sizes of flippers available to try on for sizing at both the Appleton Y and Neenah Y.  FCYST has a team store through Elsmore Swim Shop that has the same flippers for sale.  You can see all Elsmore has to offer, from team suits to team bags and much more, by clicking on the Elsmore logo on left side of our home screen on our website.
