Welcome to Gators 2019

Welcome Gators (email sent April 30th, 2019)

Welcome 2019 Gator Families!  I am thrilled to be the Head Coach of the team again this summer.  Joining me are Assistant Coaches Jane Denenberg, Kate Kissane, Sydney Green, Kate Morris and Grace Schwieters.  We all have tremendous knowledge and passion for swimming and are very excited to share our love of the sport with your children.

This email contains important information regarding the beginning of our season and several changes we’ve made to our program this summer. Attached are two documents -  the 2019 Gator Parent Manual for your reference throughout the season, and the 2019 stroke clinic registration information flyer.

For all new Gator families – I encourage you to attend the New Parent Orientation on May 14th at 6:30 pm at the Spring Avenue Recreation Center.  This meeting is very informative and is a great time to ask questions and meet the coaches.

For all returning Gator families – you will notice below we’ve made some changes (in bold) this season to help improve the program.

  • In lieu of a Practice Meet we are hosting Placement Practices to determine A and B teams June 3rd – June 6th.  Each Gator attends only two practices this week.  Attendance is important to evaluate swimming abilities.

    • Last names A – L – attend their age group practice on Monday and Wednesday only

    • Last names M - Z – attend their age group practice on Tuesday and Thursday only.

  • Specific practice times for each age group are posted on our website – www.gegators.com in the schedule section.

  • Every Gator can compete in 5 dual meets during the season – 2 of these meets must be away meets – new this summer – one meet has to be further than Lisle and Wheaton.

  • Stroke Clinics are split into two groups based on age and ability . Please see the attached flyer for information.

  • Gator parents are required to volunteer at several meets - for either bullpen helper or lane-timer. More information will be emailed at the end of May.

Gator Team Suits

We recommend Gators wear a team suit to meets. These suits are available for purchase online at  www.allamericanswim.com.  Click on the “team store” icon on the homepage to access our team suit and other gator merchandise -- username: glen password: gators. We have a new suit design this year, but all previous Gator team suits are great too. Boys suits are $21.95 and girls suits are $27.95.

Gator Communication and Information

www.gegators.com  Our team website is an important tool for all Gator parents. You will use this to sign up for swim meets and events, check practice schedules, learn about our program, etc.  At this point, new Gator parents should have received website login instruction - if not, please email me asap. You need this login access to sign your Gator up for meets and to sign up to volunteer.

@gator.land  – is an informal team instagram site where we post fun pictures and videos from practices and meets throughout the season.

Gator Weekly Newsletter  - I send an email every Sunday during the season withimportant  Gator reminders and information.

Individual Questions  – We respectfully request that parents do not approach coaches with questions during practices, or go beyond our Gator training signs while we coach.  As you may know, we are a very large team (over 300 Gators this year!), and the coaches are most effective when they stay focused on the swimmers during practices. You can email me with questions or concerns nancydenenberg@hotmail.com .  I do my best to respond within 24 hours. I’m also available to talk early in the afternoons on most weekdays – you can usually find me in the Gator office – the back building of Sunset pool – or we can schedule a phone call. You can also ask anyone on our fantastic Gator Parent Advisory Committee. The members this year are Danielle Bollman, Maureen Lawrence, Emily Lobdell, Molly McNally, Carla Olsen, Karl Peter, Jennifer Schlieben, and Jackie Wyrick.
