Carmel Recap – The curtain has officially risen on our competitive slate for the summer, and it was an outstanding effort over the weekend at the Carmel Spring Fling. The first meet of the season brought several noteworthy firsts for WTSC swimmers, headlined by Charlotte Buening making the first Age Group State cut of her career in the 100 Breast. Not to be outdone, three WTSC swimmers left Carmel with the first Divisional cuts of their careers: Anna Nix (50 Back), Samantha Washburn (50 Breast) and Annie Wolfe (50 Back; 50 & 100 Breast). Peter LaBarge set himself up for an exciting summer by besting the Winter Junior National cut in the 50 Free. And Charlotte will have some company at AG State, as the following swimmers also posted their first qualifying times of the season: Avery Aiello (50 Free; 100 Back), Emily Buening (400 Free), Colin Parker (100 Free) and Lillian Tabor (50 Back; 50 & 100 Breast). The season’s first Honor Roll is posted at the pool and on the club website. Check it out for these highlights and many more. Way to go WTSC!
WTSC Group Outing – Thank you for supporting our group outing to the FINA Champions Swim Series (May 31 & June 1 @ IUPUI Natatorium; competition starting at 7pm on both nights). We have far exceeded the required minimum to place a group order and are looking forward to having a big crowd in the stands on both nights to support our American superstars in this made-for-television event, including Chase Kalisz, Lilly King and Ryan Murphy. In another bit of exciting news, several WTSC swimmers (based on the number of total tickets ordered) will be randomly entered in a drawing to serve as basket kids for the event. If any of our swimmers are selected, you will be contacted by Coach Josh to confirm availability and interest. Ticket orders will be billed to your account and once tickets are received you can pick them up from the coaches at practice. And evening practice will be canceled for all training groups on Friday, May 31. Please speak with Coach Josh if you have questions about this event.
Wear Your Shirts to School Day – WTSC is off and running with our new “Ask Me Why I Swim WTSC” marketing campaign! You can help spread the word about WTSC through social media (see below) but we also now have a new, attractive marketing tool, our “Ask Me Why I Swim WTSC” T shirts. We’re asking all WTSC swimmers to help us find future teammates by wearing their new red T shirts to school on Friday, May 17 (if your school dress code allows it). If you have not yet picked up your new shirts, please speak with your group coach at practice next week. Word-of-mouth is a powerful recruiting tool and we hope you will support this effort to build our program.
WTSC Social Media – WTSC is alive and well on social media and we need your support to spread the word about all the good things going on with our team. Please follow Washington Township Swim Club on Facebook as well as on Twitter and Instagram at @swimwtsc (both platforms).
Snap Raise Campaign – At our membership meeting, details were provided about our ongoing Snap Raise fundraising campaign. This is an easy and effective fundraising tool and we are excited to see our results, but we need your help to make it work. Our goal is $15,000 which will go towards training and pool equipment and, if we reach our goal, we will hold a club pool party and cookout at one of our local outdoor facilities. How can you beat fun in the sun! If you have not yet setup your Snap Raise portfolio, please follow these easy instructions to get started:
· Visit www.hwho.org to begin the process.
· Signup by using email or Facebook. If you use email, please upload a photo of your swimmer to make your emails to prospective donors more personal.
· Enter the join code: 554254258
· Follow the steps in the pop-up guide and enter your donor emails. Please make sure to copy the emails that you send to WTSC Business Manager Jennifer Buddenbaum in this area of the setup.
· Snap Raise is confident that we have enough support to reach our goal, so thank you!
· Please speak with Jennifer Buddenbaum if you have questions about the campaign.
PIKE Meet – Online entries are now closed for the PIKE Developmental Meet (May 22 @ Pike HS). However, if you missed the deadline and would like to get added, please contact your group coach by 5pm on Sunday. This meet is appropriate and encouraged for all WTSC swimmers age 14&Under. An order of events and warmup schedule are posted on the club website. Please speak with your group coach if you have questions about this event.
BA Early Bird – Final entries for the BA Early Bird (May 17-19 @ Purdue University) have been submitted and accepted by the host club, and entries are now closed. Entries are available for review at the pool and on the club website. Please speak with Coach Josh or Coach Todd if you have questions about this event.
WTSC Fathers’ Day Invite – It’s not too early to start thinking about our main event for the summer, the WTSC Father’s Day Invite (June 14-16 @ NC). The field is shaping up to be deep and competitive and we will want to put our best foot forward in every way. As with all hosted meets, all WTSC swimmers have been pre-entered (Whitecaps on Saturday & Sunday, Breakers through Seniors all three days) and parents will have until May 17 to opt out of participation or alter days of participation if you have conflicts. This event is also subject to the worker requirements detailed in your registration packet. A job signup will go live closer to the event. Please speak with your group coach if you have questions about this event and get ready for another great weekend of WTSC racing and hosting!
