All clubs and LSCs are required to implement the new Minor Athlete Abuse Prevention Policy (MAAPP) by June 23, 2019, this is the first step in doing that for the GCY Makos. Please review information below, it includes all the many changes.
A few of the updates that will impact us the most are the following:
All electronic communciation with the swimmers and coaches must have parents cc'd, including text messages and emails. This is all communication with a USA certified coach/official and a USA Swimming athlete, unless related by family. YES, this includes ALL communication, even if it is work/school related outside of GCY (for example, lifeguard/jr coach with a summer league team and a USA certified coach/manager communication) for those under the age of 18.
Coaches/officials are NOT allowed to follow swimmers on social media, even if this started before coming to GCY, unless the 2 are related by family. Coaches/officals will be "unfriending" or "unfollowing" swimmers over the next few weeks if this exists right now in order to meet this requirement. It is ok for parents/swimmers/everyone to follow our team's social media pages, but we will be unfollowing individual swimmers under the age of 18.
Electronic Communication with parents/swimmers will be sent from the hours of 8am-8pm, unless an emergency situation exists (weather, changes, etc).
The rest we believe are in line with our exisiting and prior policies, however we have posted ALL the updates/changes below for you to review.

This page includes helpful links and documents to assist clubs with that requirement. Please direct questions to NCS Safe Sport Chair Rebecca Landre at [email protected].
Effective June 23, all athlete members 18 years of age and older must satisfactorily complete the US Center for Safe Sport Athlete Protection Training Program every 12 months. Athletes who are not certified within 30 days after their 18th birthdays or do not renew their certification every 12 months will not be permitted to participate in USA Swimming activities like sanctioned swim meets and practices.
