YMCA of the USA has posted an updated Safe Sport Act Overview document that includes implications for YMCAs, FAQs, and resources. The Safe Sport Act and the U.S. Center for Safe Sport strive to protect youth from all forms of abuse and mandate training, reporting protocols and behavioral policies and procedures to prevent abuse.
Y-USA recommends all YMCAs that offer youth sporting activities, including swim team programs, take steps to ensure their policies and procedures for abuse prevention and reporting align with the law. If you have specific questions about if and how the legislation applies to your YMCA, please consult legal counsel to assist with interpreting the law and its implications for your YMCA.
Note that for any activities governed by National Governing Bodies and Paralympic sports, additional procedures and policies are required under the act. Find the Safe Sport Act Overview HERE or follow the link to the post on Link.
