This spring, Stingrays have been training hard and are reaching personal best times in many meets, including provincial and national level meets. We are thrilled to share all of the successes that our swimmers have achieved:
Short Course Provincials, Respol Centre, Calgary March 1-3
Congratulations to Tanya Berry, Ron Betser, Shaeley Douglas, Halle Gizowski, Amelie Provencher and Jake Rozak who raced in Short Course Provincials. They all performed outstanding with Amelie winning silver in the 400m IM! Amelie earned top ten finishes in 50m Breaststroke (8th), 100m Breaststroke (8th), 200m Breaststroke (10th), 200m Butterfly (5th), 200m IM (7th), and Halle Gizowski raced to a fourth place finish in 100m IM.
Provincial Age Group Championships, Kinsmen Sports Centre, Edmonton March 14-17
Congratulations to Ian Cameron, Sydney Hanrahan, Gabe MacDonald, Ben Toshack and Andrew Welsh, who raced in the Spring Provincial Age Group Championships. Gabe won the bronze medal in both the 50m Breaststroke and 100m Breaststroke races and took 6th place in the 200m Breaststroke event. Other top ten performances included:
- Ian 50m Breaststroke (8th), 100m Breaststroke (6th), 200m Breaststroke (7th)
- Ben 100m Breaststroke (10th), 200m Breaststroke (8th)
- Andrew 50m Freestyle (5th) 100m Freestyle (7th), 200m Freestyle (9th)
As a result of their solid performances at Provincial Championships; Gabe MacDonald and Andrew Welsh were invited to attend the Swim Alberta Discover camp, and Ian Cameron was selected to join the Emerge camp in May. They trained with selected swimmers from across the province and learn about all aspects of swimming including sports psychology, nutrition, and training and meet conduct.
Western Canadian Championships, Kinsmen Sports Centre, Edmonton April 11-14
Congratulations to Ian Cameron, Ben Toshack and Sydney Hanrahan who qualified for Western Canadians. Ian and Ben both qualified in the 100m Breaststroke and 200m Breaststroke events, and Sydney qualified in the 50m backstroke and 50m freestyle. These three swimmers swam at Westerns for the first time in Victoria, BC in 2018.

Alberta Provincial North Festival, St. Albert, June 1-2
This is a meet for 10 & Under girls and 11 & Under boys who have achieved a Provincial Festival qualifying time. Congratulations to our 13 current qualifiers who attended this weekend’s meet!

We are very pleased to have had such a large group attend this meet, it shows a great deal of input and hard work from the swimmers and their families.
We hope these swimmers and many others will continue developing and reach the next level of Provincial qualifying times.
Alberta Age Group Provincials, Calgary, June 14-16
Congratulations to our Provincial Team, this meet has recently seen an updated format with much faster time standards than before. It is a very high quality competition with Alberta wide talent.

Canadian Junior Championships, Respol Centre, Calgary, July 24-29
This is the highest level National meet for age group swimmers. Congratulations to Ben Toshack, who qualified for the CJC meet at the recent EKI meet in Edmonton.
Ben swam his 200 Breast in 2:34.44, winning the event with team mate Ian Cameron close behind in second place. Ben and Ian are ranked 4th and 5th in Alberta in the 200 Breaststroke.
Ben achieved a second qualifying time at the recent SilverCup meet in the 100m Breast.
Congratulations to all Stingrays and the ongoing achievements that you can be proud of! Let’s cheer our swimmers as they prepare to represent Sherwood Park Swim Club at the Provincial and National level over the next two months.
