Our hosted Stroke and Turn officials training session is next Tuesday! We need a few parent volunteers to become certified! Stroke and Turn officials are right on the front line on the pool deck, walking beside the swimmers as they are competing!
For brand new officials, this entails going to a training course followed by shadowing a seasoned official for 2 meets. This requirement can be satisfied at any regular season meet or at any of the invitational meets held during the season. Once you have shadowed 2 meets you are qualified for the remainder of the season! If you were certified last summer, you will still need to attend a training session this season before officiating.
The job does not require that you have any prior swimming experience, just a desire to learn! The training classes are held at swim clubs around the area. You are not required to go to the one LMT hosts; you may attend at any location that fits your personal schedule.
Also, for those that already have 2 years of experience as a Stroke and Turn official, you may consider an additional 1 hour of training to become a Starter/Referee. To be a Starter/Referee, you only need to shadow for 1 Meet.
All sessions listed below begin with 1 hour of Stroke and Turn training followed by 1 hour of Starter/Referee training. The following classes are currently scheduled:
All classes are from 7:00-9:00pm
Wednesday, 6/12 (Today) @ Newtown Crossing, 206 Hidden Valley Lane,
Tuesday, 6/18 @ LMT, LMT Community Center, 1550 Oxford Valley Rd
Wednesday, 6/19 @ Richboro Swim Club, 750 2nd Street Pike, Richboro
Monday, 6/24@ CORE, Neshaminy High School *
Lower Bucks Swim League requires each person who desires to officiate LBSL swim meets to attend a certification clinic every year prior to the start of the season. The exception to this requirement would be USAS, YMCA or PIAA certified officials. These persons will be grandfathered in BUT a copy of their certification must be submitted to the Officials Chair. Certification in any other competitive swim league (including SAL) will not be recognized for LBSL purposes.
If you are interested and plan to attend a training session, please reply to this email. If you have any questions, feel free to reach out! Thank you!
