Wildkats Start 2019 Season Strong, Beat Mentor

The Willoiwck Wildkats came off the blocks in their opening meet of the 2019 season fast. They had a good start to their first meet and the season as they went into Mentor and came back to Arnold Rd. with a 315-226 win.

If the coaches were unsure of what this version of the Wildkats would be to start the season, they go their answer rather quickly, as Willowick won all eight medley relays and was really never threatened by the Marlins.

They had 13 swimmers win both of their individual races, including Sam Ganim, who won all three of his races, in the new 16-18 age group.

The Suburban Swim League voted to allow 16-18 year olds to swim for points this season. League rules also allow three individual races for anyone who's team does not have enough swimmers for a relay in a given age group.

Other double winners for the Wildkats were: Cooper DeRenzo (25 free/50 free), Nathaniel Peters (25 fly/25 breast), Riley Lacinak (100 IM/50 breast), Colton Cutwright (50 free/50 back), Cal DiCello (100 free/50 back), Sophia DeRenzo (50 free/100 free), Savannah Hirsch (50 fly/50 breast), Izzy Trem (100 IM/50 back), Caleb Ortman (200 free/100 IM), Tino Perkovic (100 free/50 back), Sally Dempsey (100 fly/100 back), Andrew Ingram (200 IM/100 breast).

The Wildkats will play host to the two-time defending SSL champions, Chardon, on Saturday, June 22. The two teams have combined to win the last four Division I titles.
