Press Release - June 20, 2019

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE – June 20, 2019

On Tuesday, June 18th, the coaches delivered email statements to the membership confirming that they would not be extending their contracts beyond this swim season. We were disappointed by this news as both Nick and Matt were offered letters of intent. We believed the letters of intent proposed fair terms and conditions for the services being offered by the coaches and the structure of our club. They stipulated specific deadlines of acknowledgment which were, unfortunately, not observed by the coaches

Matt Bowkowy and Nicholas Wenzel will not be continuing as TCS/Masters and Performance Coaches for Triton Swim Club as all parties were unable to agree on contract terms for the 2019-2020 season.

Nick Wenzel has announced he’s accepted a coaching position with a club in Northern Alberta that better aligns with the timing of his career objectives. We thank both coaches for their contributions over the past few seasons.

To provide additional context - The TCSS board decided it was best for the organization to adapt the club and its services to better meet the requirements of the members and to address a temporary closure of one of our two facilities.

Coach recruitment endeavors have been underway for some time. As a precautionary measure, professional job postings were created on CSCTA to satisfy coaching requirements for the 2019-2020 season. To date, the board has received several resumes by prospective applicants. As soon as we have suitable replacements, Triton Swim Club will communicate its new coaching appointment(s) to its membership.

Coach Nicholas Wenzel will continue his duties until the end of the 2019 competitive season, and we thank him for his continued service and professionalism. We wish Nicholas all the very best in his future endeavors.

Triton Swim Club and its parent volunteers understand that the Club is about the young swimmers it services in Leduc, Beaumont and surrounding areas. It has a long history of being a swimmer-centered pre-competitive and competitive program for swimmers aged 5 to 17 years old.

Finally, on June 18th, Triton Swim Club held its Annual General Meeting wherein the President shared draft training and fee schedules. Triton Treasurer presented the unaudited financial statements and confirmed a positive cash position. Board elections took place and 75% of the board positions were filled. Members in attendance showed support and thanked the volunteer board and volunteer committee members for their dedication and support for swimmers and families currently enrolled in the Triton Swim Club programs. Triton President, Jeff Vandersteen, echoed that we have come a long way in one year with respect to restructuring and recovery, and that the current coaching challenge is one Triton Swim Club will certainly overcome.

Should you have any questions, please feel free to contact a Triton Swim Club board member.

Yours in Swimming,
