 Hi Stingrays Families,

Congratulations on a great meet yesterday!  We had lots of fast swims and great cheering.  We’d like to thank all of our awesome volunteers.  We really couldn’t do it without you!

**When we create relays for the Straehle and Divisional meets, we base our selections off of two main things: the top four times in the age group, and whether or not they were on a qualifying relay. Essentially, swimmers have to have swam on a relay that qualified for the meet, or they are not eligible to swim a the Straehle meet.  Thus, just being on a qualifying relay does not necessarily guarantee that you will be swimming at the Straehle meet.  We will keep an updated list of all qualifiers as we go through the season.

Meet at Shipley’s Choice (away)

Our next regular season meet is this Saturday, June 29nd, at Shipley’s Choice (947 Rustling Oaks Dr., Millersville, MD 21108).  Please plan to arrive at Shipley’s and check in with the coaches by 8:15 am and be ready for warm-ups by 8:30.  The meet will start promptly at 9:00.  If you must leave early for other commitments, please make sure the coaches know not to put your swimmer(s) in later events, and please do not sign up for second half volunteer jobs.  Please commit your swimmer(s) in Team Unify by the end of practice on Tuesday, June 25th.

Committing to meets

In order to allow our coaches enough time to complete the meet line-up and to adequately set up relays, it is crucial that you declare whether your swimmer will be attending a meet or not by the deadline.  The deadlines for committing to the Saturday dual meets are the Tuesdays before.  Information for the optional meet deadlines are below and are also listed on the website.  If you aren’t sure how to commit to a meet or are having difficulty navigating the process, please see a board member at practice and we would be more than happy to help you.

Swim Buddies

Our swim buddy pairings were sent out last week.  The swim buddy system was designed to provide each younger swimmer with an older swimmer who will encourage, support, and cheer their younger teammate on.  It also provides the older swimmer the opportunity to mentor a younger swimmer.  Please ensure your swimmer touches base with their buddy at every meet and occasionally at practice.  Also, if possible, please encourage your swimmer to cheer their buddy on when they are racing.  If you wish, you can have your swimmer give their buddy a SMALL treat or surprise at the meets.  We will have “buddy bags” available for purchase at the snack bar at home meets for those busy parents who are unable to find time to run to the store.

Evening Practice

Evening practice is full for the week of June 24th.  If you have a spot that week and are not going to be able to use it, please email wststingrays@gmail.com as soon as you know so someone else may utilize the spot.  If you need a spot any other week, please email wststingrays@gmail.com to be added to the waiting list.

Team Banner

Starting this week, we’re going to get all of our swimmers handprints on this year’s team banner.  When you see this set up near the grassy area where the swimmers do their stretches before practice, please send your swimmers over to place their handprints.

Spirit Wear

Our spirit wear is expected to arrive this week, and we will pass your orders along to you as soon as we receive them.
