Welcome to summer - and a busy swim season!!
Two Away Meets this Week
Please remember to let us know which meets you children are participating in. It makes our lineups much more manageable when we know who is actually going to show up. With 230+ swimmers, trying to find appropriate and logical event choices for each swimmer is a big task. Please do your part and keep us informed of your plans. If the registration window is locked, please email any change in your meet status.
Away Meet “Travel Squads”
We aren’t able to take our entire team to all of our away meets - we’re just too big. The coaches will let you know before each meet which swimmers will be participating. This year (next Tuesday) we are swimming at Sheridan Beach, which is a four lane pool. If you child is 8, 10, or 12 (not 6,7,9,11) they are eligible to swim. We also take a few of the younger ones if they’ve cracked the top relays, or by special request from your family. Swimmers at the Sheridan meet should also be aware that they may only swim in 2 events, not the usual 3 or 4. Sheridan has a great team this year, with a lot of super-fast kids, so let’s be prepared to swim our best!
Our other away meets, 6/27 and 7/23, we will only limit our 8U travel squad.
“Pre-Meet” Events at Home Dual Meets – July 9, 11, 16, 18
We’ll be running events for many of our younger 8U swimmers at 4:15 again this year. Families will receive an email a day or two before each home meet confirming swim times for your children. If your work or commute plans don’t fit with the 4:15 start time, please let me know.
Time Trials and Mini-Meet
Thanks to all of the parents who have helped to make our meets so smooth this year. Kris Harness, Jon Lewis, Kirsten Lawlor, and Matt Shelden have especially been working overtime to get things done.
Remember that you can access your swimmer’s times on our website under “my meet results”.
Race Classes/Swim Lessons
Many swim team members still participate in either swim lessons or race classes. While we do try and cover all of the strokes and skills in workout, the smaller class sizes of our lesson program (and our great instructors) can really make a difference. Check with any of the coaches or office staff about which lesson your child should sign up for. Register for lessons at the pool office.
Weekend Starts & Turns Clinic Schedule – 7/6, 7/13, 7/20
Pre-Register in the office to reserve your spot! $10 per swimmer.
Volunteering at Meets
This year each family is asked to contribute five hours of volunteer time over the swim team season. If none of the evening meet jobs work for your family, let us know and we can try and find some other work options for you. Remember that this year there is a $25 per hour charge for any workshare hours left at the end of the season.
Look for the “job signup” buttons on the website next to each swim team event.
Thanks to Matt Shelden for helping to organize our volunteers. The timer turnout at time trials and mini-meet was fantastic. Great work!
Swim Team Event Emails
Team Unify (our website) is set up to send out automatic reminders for each swim team event. If you haven’t registered, or “declared” either yes or no for a meet, you will automatically be sent additional messages.
Swim Team Shirts – Additional Order
Our shirts look great this year! Our crack design team, headed by coach Pete, deserve the credit. Your team shirt was included as part of your registration fee. If you registered late, or would like to purchase additional shirts, use the attached order form or email Coach Pete.
