To KKW swimmers and parents:
August would mark 5 years that I have served as Head Coach for the Ketchikan Killer Whales Swim Club. I have enjoyed working with the kids and parents on the club through the years. I most enjoyed getting to know everyone personally, and seeing the goals of the swimmers’ hard work become a reality for them at meets and Time Trials.
In my years with the team, attendance at practice and involvement in the team from swimmers and parents in general has improved tremendously. Kids are having fun on the club, wanting to go to practice, and are improving - which are things the club was lacking in 2014 when I first moved to Ketchikan. Additionally, public perception of the club has improved in Ketchikan with consistent news articles about the performances of the athletes and the fun they are having.
I have appreciated the opportunity to live in Southeast Alaska and work with your swimmers. Without this opportunity, I would never have met my future wife. While serving as head coach, the team was able to annually put kids on to the state Zone team. We earned the opportunity to host Alaska State Age Group Champs. The facility was upgraded extensively, making it one of the most well-equipped pools in the country. The team is among the very few in the state and country to have earned Club Level One Recognition from USA Swimming.
July will be my final month as your Head Coach. I have accepted the Head Coach position with Midnight Sun Swim Team in Fairbanks, Alaska. I have been given an opportunity to see and live in a different part of Alaska and experience more of what this great state has to offer. I will still be traveling to meets and will see everyone on the road at them. I am looking forward to returning to Ketchikan in February as you host a successful Alaska State Age Group Championships.
It has been a great pleasure to see your swimmers grow up these past years, and I look forward to continuing to see them excel in and out of the pool. This is our final week in the water as the pool will be closed in July. Please feel free to come down and say goodbye, as Megan and I will be moving to Fairbanks at the end of July.
Thank you again for the opportunity to work with your kids and teach them a thing or two about swimming.
