Park Paseo vs. Turtle Rock Broadmoor – 6/29/19

The Park Paseo Northstars hosted the Turtle Rock Broadmoor Sharks on Saturday. Only three medley relays had swimmers from both teams and the Northstars came out on top every time, winning each race by nearly 30 seconds! The most exciting medley relay of the day came between the 13 – 14 and 15 – 18 Northstars teams, with the younger team touching the wall .62 seconds before their opponents.

For the second week in a row, Andrew Teh broke a team record, swimming the boys 13 – 14 backstroke in 27.13 seconds.

This week, the Northstars took first place in 48 races, with six swimmers placing first and qualifying for champs in all three of their events, including Deron Hsia, Nyah Lin, Payton Lin, Sydney Lin, Andrew Teh, and Noah Villanueva. Swimmers who placed in the top three in all of their events and had at least one qualifying time were Adrian Bekker, Peyton Cheng, Rachel Gima, Aditi Gupta, Brynna Hsia, Jalen Hsia, Jake Jacoby, Harman Kalra, Nathan Lao, Tyler Lin, Owen Lo, Winter Niu, and Josh Sellwood. Additional swimmers with first-place finishes were Sarah Chao, Ethan Chen, Trevor Cheng, Danny Constandse, Zuhal Dayioglu, Ally Lao, Lindsay Tarlton, and Karlisha Yu.

Eight swimmers earned their first ISL qualifying times of the season this week, including Sarah Chao, Alex Chin, Danny Constandse, Zuhal Dayioglu, Andrew Do, Jackie Edney, Harman Kalra, and Isaac Lee. Overall, the Northstars had 32 swimmers qualify in 68 events, with 28 of those times being achieved for the first time this season.

The Northstars earned 148 time improvements this week, with 90% of the swimmers improving in at least one race. Satyar Safae dropped the most time, taking off 42.82 seconds in the boys 9 – 10 individual medley and 12 seconds in backstroke. Anh Truong also had two double-digit drops, taking off 11.24 seconds in the girls 11 – 12 butterfly and 20.16 seconds in the IM. Also taking off more than 20 seconds were Kevin Li (-28.90 in the boys 9 – 10 backstroke) and Srikar Papineni (-20.18 in the boys 11 – 12 butterfly). Swimmers taking off more than 10 seconds in a single race were Azra Buvan, Macey Inouye, Kenan Uzun, Michelle Zhang, and Lucas Zhao.

There were 17 Northstars who had three time improvements, including Azra Buvan, Danny Constandse, Andrew Do, Joshua Gima, Rachel Gima, Jake Jacoby, Harman Kalra, Nora Kao, Linky Kao, Nathan Lao, Isaac Lee, Nyah Lin, Cailen Muncy, Josh Sellwood, Anh Truong, Angelina Van Velden, and Noah Villanueva.

The 33 Northstars with two time improvements were Sarah Chao, Peyton Cheng, Alex Chin, Ryan Damko, Jackie Edney, Lauren Giglia, Aditi Gupta, Anshul Gupta, Macey Inouye, Aaron Josenhans, Ava Josenhans, Evie Kao, Isaac Kao, Ally Lao, Ian Lee, Angela Li, Kevin Li, Owen Lo, Matthew Ma, Natalie Miller, Travis Miller, Hanna Muncy, Satyar Safae, Devynn Slater, Lindsay Tarlton, Andrew Teh, Haylee Trinh, Emir Uzun, Ben Yoo, Russell Yoo, Karlisha Yu, Michelle Zhang, and Lucas Zhao.

Another 31 Northstars improved in one event, including Tyler Allen, Brody Bautista, Adrian Bekker, Josh Chao, Ethan Chen, Trevor Cheng, Katie Damko, Audrey Do, Vicki Edney, Edward Fu, Genevieve Hagedorn, Lucy Hinkle, RJ Hogan, Jalen Hsia, Isla Kim, Joyce Kim, Soham Kulkarni, Pak Li, Payton Lin, Andrew Ma, Emily Nauli, Winter Niu, Om Panday Srikar Papineni, Maanav Parajuli, Simran Patel, Hirun Perera, Sophie Trinh, Kenan Uzun, Sophia Wu, and Chloe Zhao.

Zuhal Dayioglu, Manvir Kalra, and Zhongwen Zhang competed in their races for the first time this week. Hannah Miller finished in the top three in two of her races and Aaron Soleimani placed third in one of his. Micah Kim and Khanh Truong also swam hard for the Northstars.
