July 1, 2019
I hope everyone had a great weekend! As a reminder, there will be NO afternoon/evening practice on July 4. The National and Senior groups will still have morning practice on Thursday. We will have normal practice on Friday, July 5.
Coach Melanie and I were in Las Vegas with 17 swimmers from our National and Senior groups for a training camp at UNLV. It was an outstanding trip for our swimmers and a great way for them to get to experience what it’s like to be a collegiate swimmer. You can view the highlights by visiting RENO’s Instagram page and click the “Training Trip” icon.
Practice Schedule Changes
Thursday, July 4 morning – Normal practice for National and Senior
Thursday, July 4 afternoon – NO practice for any group
Friday, July 5 – Normal schedule
New Cap Policy
I am excited to implement a new team policy effective this week. On Fridays at practice, all RENO swimmers can wear any swim cap they want. Then all the other days, they will need to continue to wear their RENO caps. The only exception to this rule is when our college swimmers return home during breaks. They will be allowed to wear the cap of their respective university.
If your child needs a new RENO cap, please have them see me or his/her group coach.
The next local meet is Tahoe Swim Club’s Swimming at Altitude meet (July 12 – 14). The registration deadline is this Wednesday at midnight. Click here to register.
The same weekend as Tahoe, RENO will have 20+ swimmers traveling to the Bay Area to compete in the Senior 2 Trials/Finals meet and Pacific JO Championships. Parents of these swimmers – please be sure to turn in team travel money and register for the meet. The registration deadline for the meets are this Wednesday.
Sierra Summer Swim League Novice Meet
RENO is partnering with Silver Bear Swim School to host the SSSL Summer Championships on Saturday, July 27th in Carson City. This meet is perfect for swimmers in our Blue, Mini, and Summer Swim Program.
If you are interested in having you child participate, you will need to email me by Monday, July 22. Payment will be due at the meet on July 27. Click here for the meet information.
High Country Championship
RENO’s end of the summer championship meet is the High Country Championship in Minden, NV. The meet takes place August 2 – 4. For all swimmers not going to Western Zones, the coaches strongly encourage you to attend High Country. It’s a great way to wrap up summer, and our goal is to place as high as possible in the team standings!
Registration is now open. Click here to register.
This week’s parent education is courtesy of Elizabeth Wickham from SwimSwam. She has created eleven tips of a Super Swim Parents:
They are supportive of their kids and offer unconditional love – regardless of personal bests or adding time.
They get their children to practice consistently.
They don’t compare their swimmers to others.
They are open and inviting to newer swim parents.
You won’t see them gossiping on the pool deck.
They are interested in how their child’s friends are doing.
If there’s a job that needs doing, no matter how big or small, they’ll step up.
They will help out families who can’t take their kids to a meet or practice.
They are supportive and loyal to their child’s team.
They always have a positive comment or thought and leave the negativity behind.
They understand their role as a parent and let the coaches coach.
Each week, I will post the “Parent Education” section on the website. Click here to read the archived articles.
