Volunteers Needed for UW Health Neurosurgery Swim Clinic July 13

Hi Volunteers!

 

First off, thank you so much for volunteering to help out with our first Department of Neurosurgery Swim Clinic. We are excited to have passionate and talented coaches to work with our faculty and staff.

Here is some information to prepare for our fun day. 

 

Where: ParkCrest Pool, 1 N Yellowstone Dr., Madison WI 53705. Enter through the side gate.

Volunteer Check-In & Set Up

9:20 - 9:30 AM

Introduction to Swim Clinic

9:30 - 9:50 AM

SwimWest/ThinkFirst Water Safety

9:50 - 10:00 AM

Instructor Introduction, Split into Groups

10:00 - 10:25 AM

Swim Lesson: Session 1

10:25 - 10:50 AM

Swim Lesson: Session 2

10:50-11:30 AM

Free time: games, relays, play

11:30 - 12:00 PM

Clean up 

 

Numbers: We have about 50 total participants that have RSVPed with about 20 children under 14 years of age.

The groups for children are as follows: Comfort (0-3 years), Movement (4-6 years), Independence (7-10 years), and Refinement (11+ years).

Adult break-out groups include: Session 1: Floats/Treading Water, Free Basic, Free Advanced

                                                                Session 2: Free Advanced, Stroke, Flip turns

There will be about 3-4 instructors with participating adults, and the rest with the children. If you have a preference on what group youd like to help with, please let me know.

 

Skills: Most of you have great experience as swimmers and/or coaches so I trust your judgement on what you think our participants need. However, in case youd like some ideas:

If you have any questions on these drills, please let me know and I am happy to explain them and/or walk you through them.

Children are grouped by age initially, however, we are flexible to move people around based on experience level.

 

Food/Beverage: There will be water, lemonade, and coffee on the pool deck throughout the clinic. Light snacks will be provided on the upper deck of the pool. Pizza will be provided afterwards for the volunteers.

 

Attire: I would like a majority of the coaches to get into the water, so please bring a swim suit!
