Swim Team News 7/7/19
Great Season So Far!
Nothing like a summer of swimming to keep everyone busy. And the big part of the season is just getting here!
Our next three meets will be a tight ones. Be sure to bring your “A-Game” and swim hard. Racing against other fast swimmers helps to bring out the best in you as a competitor. Do you best and be proud of your effort. Help prepare yourself for the meet by resting and taking it easy tomorrow. No big hikes, trampolines, or yard work!
We finally get to have a home meet – in fact the next four are at home. Make sure that you’ve signed up for jobs to help out. It takes everyone to pull these meets off. Our catering service this year will be a bit different – there were some last minute changes – so please double check what else you can do to help.
It will also be exciting to see our youngest swimmers in our “pre-meets”. Come down at 4:15pm to watch all of our future stars in action!
When we’re updating the best times sheets after each meet, we are always astounded at some of the time drops. The kids are really working hard. Remember that you can track your swimmer’s times by logging into the Team Unify website and clicking on “My Account” and then “My Meet Results”.
Full results of our meets, and for all GSSSL meets, are on the league website.

Please see the information below to see when your child’s group will be making them. If any of you have any left over posters making supplies to donate we would greatly appreciate it.

July 11th– Everyone, led by 8U (also pancake day) – 9:00am

Coach Megan and some of our Seniors have matched up a “Big Buddy” for all of our 8U swimmers. We’ll share our initial lists this week. The goal is for the “big” kids to help mentor and cheer for the “little” kids. We’ll be working with the teenagers on some things that they can do to help – like helping to walk kids to the blocks and congratulating them after their races. The 8U swimmers can return the favor as well.
2019 Team Shirts & Tie-Dye Party – July 9 (date depends on weather)
We’ve scheduled the tie-dye party for Tuesday, July 9th. We’ll be tie dying rally towels this year. They’ll be available for purchase ($5) starting this week. We’ll need plenty of adult help to make this work. Remember to sign up online to get credit for your volunteer hours.
If you’re looking to order additional 2019 team shirts, or registered late and never received one, please contact Coach Pete.

9:00am sharp!! Wear your team gear.
At the finish of the dual meet season, all swimmers are eligible to participate in the championship season. Swimmers that reach a qualifying time standard swim at the Division Preliminaries*. Those who haven't reached a qualifying time swim at the B-Championship meet. Results from B-Champs can move a swimmer into prelims if it betters the prelim standard.
The fastest six swimmers in each event at the Prelims move on to the Northern Division Finals. To qualify for the All-City Meet, a swimmer's time at Northern Division is compared to the Southern Division results. The fastest six results, regardless of North or South affiliation, are entered in the All-City Championship meet.
*All swimmers participating in prelims must be available to swim at North Finals and the All-City Championship meet.
Some swimmers with non-qualifying times may still participate in Prelims if they are placed on a relay. Remember to mark “attend/decline” for all of the championship meets, even if you’re not sure which ones that you will qualify for. Your coaches will help you to decide which meets you will attend.
Swim Lessons & Race Class
We still have room in lessons for you child. Classes are smaller than a typical swim practice, so each swimmer gets more attention. Ask any coach or office staff member for more information.
Become a Meet Official!
We’re looking for 3-4 parents that are interested in becoming stroke and turn officials. There is no official training for summer league, but you do need to know (or be willing to learn) some basic rules. Our current officials (and their children) have just a few years left before they “age out” of the team. We would love have them mentor you during this year’s home meets. Let me know if you are interested.
We still have two 9:00am Saturday clinics left – 7/13 and 7/20. Please try and preregister in the office so that we have an idea on what our staffing needs will be. Cost is $10.
