Park Paseo vs. Turtle Rock Highlands – 7/13/19
The Park Paseo Northstars hosted the Turtle Rock Highlands Tidal Wave on Saturday. Time improvements continued to be a highlight for the Northstars, with 83 swimmers improving in 166 events.
Satyar Safae had the biggest time drop for the second week in a row. This week, he took off 46.16 seconds in the boys 9-10 butterfly. Edward Fu had double-digit drops in all three of his races, taking off 11.44 seconds in the boys 5-6 butterfly, 11.91 in backstroke, and 15.16 in freestyle. In the 5-6 age group, three Northstars had double-digit drops that led to ISL qualifying times. Harman Kalra dropped 20.09 seconds in butterfly, Chloe Zhao dropped 19.28 seconds to finish first in backstroke, and Zuhal Dayioglu dropped 10.97 seconds in butterfly to also finish first. Natalie Miller came in second in the 5-6 butterfly after she dropped 18.28 seconds. Sophie Trinh took off 22.26 seconds in the girls 9-10 breaststroke and Anh Truong dropped 25.97 seconds in the girls 11-12 backstroke. Evie Kao and Micah Kim both had two double-digit drops, with Evie taking off 15.56 seconds in the girls 9-10 butterfly and 14.64 in the individual medley, and Micah dropping 12.28 seconds in the boys 9-10 butterfly and 12.73 in backstroke.
There were 26 Northstars who had time improvements in all three of their events, including Sarah Chao, Ethan Chen, Alex Chin, Anna Cho, Katie Damko, Jackie Edney, Edward Fu, Lauren Giglia, Rachel Gima, Lucy Hinkle, Jake Jacoby, Aaron Josenhans, Evie Kao, Harman Kalra, Nathan Lao, Tyler Lin, Hannah Miller, Travis Miller, Cailen Muncy, Srikar Papineni, Hirun Perera, Sophie Trinh, Angelina Van Velden, Chaewon Yoon, Karlisha Yu, and Chloe Zhao.
The 31 swimmers with two time improvements were Azra Buvan, Trevor Cheng, Zuhal Dayioglu, Andrew Do, Vicki Edney, Aditi Gupta, Genevieve Hagedorn, Ava Josenhans, Everett Kao, Manvir Kalra, Nora Kao, Micah Kim, Jane Kim, Julia Kim, Soham Kulkarni, Ian Lee, Isaac Lee, Angela Li, Pak Li, Nyah Lin, Natalie Miller, Maanav Parajuli, Adithi Ravikumar, Aaron Soleimani, Anh Truong, Kenan Uzun, Noah Villanueva, Ben Yoo, Yeowon Yoon, Zhongwen Zhang, and Lucas Zhao.
There were 26 swimmers who improved in one event, including Tyler Allen, Adrian Bekker, Josh Chao, Everett Chen, Peyton Cheng, Ryan Damko, RJ Hogan, Macey Inouye, Isaac Kao, Linky Kao, Isla Kim, Ally Lao, Payton Lin, Andrew Ma, Matthew Ma, Hanna Muncy, Emily Nauli, Om Panday, Simran Patel, Satyar Safae, Devynn Slater, Lindsay Tarlton, Haylee Trinh, Emir Uzun, George Xiang, and Russell Yoo.
Overall, the 5-6 age group had a strong showing on Saturday. Five girls (Zuhal Dayioglu, Angela Li, Natalie Miller, Devynn Slater, and Chloe Zhao) combined to take the top two spots in butterfly, backstroke, and freestyle, and the top three spots in breaststroke. For the boys, Nathan Lao, Harman Kalra, and Everett Kao finished first through third, respectively, in the butterfly, breaststroke, and freestyle.
Six swimmers finished first and qualified for champs in all of their races, including Lucy Hinkle, Nathan Lao, Nyah Lin, Payton Lin, Andrew Teh, and Noah Villanueva. The swimmers that finished all of their events in the top three and had at least one qualifying time were Ethan Chen, Everett Chen, Peyton Cheng, Rachel Gima, Aditi Gupta, Jake Jacoby, Everett Kao, Harman Kalra, Angela Li, Winter Niu, and Chloe Zhao. Jane Kim and Chaewon Yoon also finished in the top three in every event. Anshul Gupta and Josh Sellwood each had one first-place finish and ISL qualifying time.
The Northstars had 30 swimmers earn a total of 66 champs qualifying times on Saturday. Jake Jacoby, Everett Kao, Angela Li, Hannah Miller, and Chloe Zhao all notched their first qualifying times of the season. Sarah Chao, Trevor Cheng, Andrew Do, Nyah Lin, Parsa Tamadon, Lindsay Tarlton, and Karlisha Yu all added new qualifying times.
Anika Bhardwaj, Malaika Mateti, and Zichen Xiang all swam their races for the first time on Saturday. Also swimming hard and bringing great energy to the Northstars were Danny Constandse, Audrey Do, Joshua Gima, Kevin Li, Sophia Wu, Michelle Zhang, and Mengshu Zhang.
