Multiple Records Fall at LC JO's!

ECA sent a small but mighty squad to the 2019 North Carolina Swimming 14 & Under Long Course Age Group Championships, held at the Triangle Aquatic Center in Cary, NC, July 11-14.  Multiple team records were broken and the swimmers all had best times. 

Owen Lin, 10, won 7 Gold medals and 2 Silver, shattered 8 team records, and was awarded the High Point Award for 10 & Under Boys with a staggering 154 points accumulated over the weekend.  On Friday he started off with earning the top of the podium in the 50 Free in a blazing time of 29.98, breaking the 2014 ECA record of 30.68 held by Will Barker.  His Gold medal time of 1:13.10 in the 100 Fly was an astounding 6 second drop of his own team record from May.  He blasted another first place swim in the 400 Free by over 9 seconds, clocking 5:09.37, just shy of the team record.  He brought home Silver in the 50 Breast, lowering his own team record by nearly 2 seconds, touching in 38.97.  On Saturday Lin won Gold and shattered the 9-10 Boys 200 Free ECA record by exactly 2 seconds, clocking 2:24.67.  The previous record was set in 2014 by Will Barker.  He also earned Silver in the 100 Breast, breaking his own team record by 4 seconds in 1:27.32.  On Sunday he took down the 9-10 200 IM by 2 seconds posting 2:42.26, winning that event by 5 seconds.  Next he beat his 50 Fly time by nearly a second in 32.04.  Finally, he dropped a speedy 1:06.63 in the 100 Free to take 2 seconds off his team record.   

Adeline Cloutier, 12, a new team record in the 11-12 Girls 50 Back.  She placed 3rd in a time of 32.82.  The previous record of 33.56 was set by Cristina Lurito in 2008.  Cloutier also had a big swim in the 11-12 Girls 100 Back.  Her time of 1:11.91, only 8 tenths from the team record in the event, earned 5th place. She placed 17th in the 100 Free in 1:05.79.  She finished 18th in the 11-12 50 Free in a time of 29.70 and was 20th in the 100 Fly in 1:15.36. 

Ezra Zapler, 11, joined the record setting fun with a new team record in the 11-12 200 Breast, where he finished 4th in 2:54.66.  The previous record of 2:55.89 was held by Cody Shaw since 2006. Zapler finished 6th in the 11-12 50 Breast in 37.04.  He finished 7th in the 11-12 Boys 100 Breast in 1:21.82.  He finished 12th in the 50 Free touching in 29.14 and 12th in the 200 IM in 2:37.40.  He was 13th in the 100 Free in 1:04.36.  He had a best time in the 200 Free as well of 2:22.40, finishing 23rd

Other competitors include Madison Bowen, Arianna Lee, and Nathan True, all of whom had best times as well.

ECA’s Senior swimmers will compete at the 2019 NCS Senior Long Course Championships, to be held in Greensboro, NC, July 18-21.
