Kern & Maruska Take Firsts at Silver Bronze Championships

It was a great weekend of swimming at this summer’s NJ Swimming Silver/Bronze Championships at the Berkeley Aquatic Center of Excellence in New Providence. Our 16 swimmers dove in and earned Top Places, Career Best Times, and even a Junior Olympic cut.

Our swimmers stood out in a crowded pool of competitors. Jordan Maruska kicked in Firsts in both the 100 Free and 200 Free. She also took seconds in her 100 Back, 100 Breast, 200 IM, and 400 Free! Nathaniel Kern got in on the action swimming to the top-spot in the 200 Free (and earning another JO cut), while also earning a 5th in the 10 & Under 200 IM. Billy Ruddy tested his mettle in the 400 IM finishing 4th, while Alex Flanagan proved his mental toughness conquering the 200 Fly with a 6th Place finish.

The great swims didn’t end there. Of our 81 splashes of the 3 day meet, 49 of them (60%) were Career Best (Long Course) Times! Some significant drops were brought home with Paityn Bates’ 100 Breast (7.92); Zach Bezold’s 200 Free (-7.00); Alex Flanagan’s 200 Fly (-9.00); Jonathan Kern’s 100 Back (-12.79) and 100 Free (-9.29); Sydney Mills’ 200 Back (-7.44); and Billy Ruddy’s 100 Free (-10.52), 200 Free (-22.89), and 400 IM (-1:04.36); just to name a few.

Congratulations to all of our swimmers, and good luck to those moving on to Speedo Sectionals, Junior Olympics, and USA Swimming’s Futures Championships!
