Coaching Opportunities with SPYNATION

 1.Seeking ASSISTANT SWIM COACH 

Springfield Family Y’s Competitive Swim Program is looking to hire 2-3 part-time Assistant Coaches for the 2019-20  Swim Season.  Depending on hired positions, assistant coach may work from 3-10 hours per week along with attending designated swim meets. Possible practice days from Monday – Saturday.  Springfield Family Y hires assistant coaches at an hourly rate.  Coach may work with Beginner to National level swimmers or assist with our Y’s Master Swimmers.

GENERAL REQUIREMENTS/INFORMATION: Potential assistant coaches will need to be energetic, knowledgeable in stroke technique and training protocol, have a good rapport with swimmers, interested in working with all levels of swimmers, and passionate about the sport of swimming. Assistant Coaches will work under Lead Age Group Coach and/or Head Coach with designated training groups, which may be pool and/or dryland activities.  Coach will support our Y’s swim program and activities to meet YMCA objectives, standards, and guidelines. Based on our practice and meet schedule, assistant coach’s hours and days may be flexible, so the position is easily adaptable based on assistant coach’s other work schedule. Team will pay for all designated and approved reimbursement for meet travel. It is a part time, hourly position, but could develop into a lead age group position for the right individual.

As a part of pre-employment screening, the Springfield Family YMCA will investigate an employee’s background, employment history, credentials and qualifications through criminal background checks, and reference checks.

YMCA Coach will need credentials or obtain them by the start date:

  • Professional CPR/AED Certification - (must maintain a current certification at all times and must be recertified every year)
  • Safety Training for Swim Coaches - (must maintain a current certification at all times – available through the American Red Cross only – can substitute lifeguard certification plus STSC online course offered by the ARC.
  • Principles of YMCA Competitive Swimming and Diving
  • First Aid
  • Lindsay’s Law training: Sudden Cardiac Arrest in Youth Athletes. Coach must watch video and read handout every year.
  • Concussion Training: There is a concussion training required by the State of Ohio, for coaches participating in youth sports. (Must maintain a current certification at all times)
  • YMCA's Child Abuse Prevention and Safety Training taken online

2. Seeking Conditioning and Dryland Coach

Springfield Family Y’s Competitive Swim Program is looking to hire Conditioning & Dryland Coach for the 2019-20  Swim Season.  Depending on our finalize practice schedule, dryland coach may work about 3-4 hours per week. Possible practice days from Monday – Thursday.  Springfield Family Y hires all coaches at an hourly rate. Dryland Coach will work with Advanced Group and Presenior Group.

YMCA Coach will need credentials or obtain them by the start date:

  • Background Knowledge, Education, and/or Certification in the field of Strength in Conditioning especially with understanding  for youth development and skills
  • Professional CPR/AED Certification - (must maintain a current certification at all times and must be recertified every year)
  • Principles of YMCA Competitive Swimming and Diving( may be requested to take)
  • First Aid (preferred)

ABOUT THE TEAM : Springfield Family Y Swim team also know as SPY is an established competitive Y swim of approximately 150 swimmers offering Winter and Summer Training opportunities as well as a Master Swimmers group.  Our team has a strong volunteer Parent Board support group. Our youth team competes in the Southwest Ohio Y Swim League. Some swimmers are also USA Swimming members in which our team has about  5-6 USA Swimming meets on our annual  schedule.
