August 10, 2019
August typically offers one of the few respites for swimmers to kick back and enjoy some down-time from training and competing. Typically. That break came a little later for our own Jake Riva as he joined some of the top swimmers in the Northeast at USA Swimming’s Futures Championships at the Spire Institute in Geneva, Ohio on August 1st- 4th.
It was another great showing for Jake on the national stage. As if qualifying for this event in multiple events is not enough, Jake raised the bar making finals in three events and swimming personal long course bests in 7 of his 8 swims over the 4 day meet.
He had an impressive swim in his 100 Back during Prelims, dropping from his best 1:00.54 to a 59.81 only to come back for Finals at night and swim a 59.67. He captured a 14th Place in the 100 Free Finals going in with a 54.36 and shaving it back to a 53.43. He even had some impressive Prelim swims dropping 2.67 seconds in his 200 Back, and 2.82 in his 200 IM. All in all a fantastic weekend.
We couldn’t be more proud of the athlete Jake’s become, and of all his accomplishments. Well done!
