Canadian Jr Championship Results and Highlights

 

The Langley Olympians Swim Club swimmers attended the Canadian Jr Championships in Calgary, Alberta. There were over 550 high level swimmers from 150 clubs are participating. Previous participants in the meet include some of Canada's top swimmers currently competing in the FINA World Swimming Championships. LOSC has 8 swimmers participating this year.

Josie Field (17 Years, Women’s 15-17 Category) won a gold medal in the 400m Freestyle with a time of 4:23.42, a silver medal in the 200m Freestyle with a time of 2:05.38 and a bronze medal in the 200m Butterfly with a time of 2:17.12.  She placed 5th in the 800m Freestyle with a time of 9:17.04 and 8th in the Consolation Final for the 100m Butterfly with a time of 1:05.22.

Hugh McNeill (16 Years, Men’s 16 – 18 Category) won a gold medal in the 200m Backstroke and broke an Olympians Swim Club record with a best time of 2:02.54. He placed 5th in the 400m Individual Medley with a time of 4:34.60, 1st in the consolation final in the 100m Backstroke with a best time of 59.00 and placed 4th in the consolation final in the 1500m Freestyle with a time of 16:34.69.

Katie Schroeder (13 Years, Women’s 13 – 14 Category) won a silver medal in the 100m Backstroke and broke an Olympians Swim Club record with a best time of 1:04.78.  Katie also achieved her first Swimming Canada "On-Track" (Track 2) time. This means that Katie will now be part of the list of swimmers that Swimming Canada will be looking at when it comes to the Athlete Assistance Program (AAP) or Carding.  She also placed 1st in the Consolation Final in the 200m Backstroke with a time of 2:24.70 and 3rd in the consolation final for the 200m Individual Medley with a best time of 2:28.52.

Joshua Kim (17 years Men’s 16 – 18 Category) placed 5th and broke an Olympians Swim Club record in the 200m Backstroke with a best time of 2:24.26. He also placed 1st in the consolation final in the 100m Breaststroke with a time of 1:05.93 and 4th in the consolation final in the 200m Individual Medley with a time of 2:13.54.

The Langley Olympians Swim Club placed 11th overall and 3rd in British Columbia at the Canadian Jr Championships which was a huge improvement from placing 47th last season.   Head Coach Brian Metcalfe said “All swimmers had great swims this weekend.  It was fantastic to see our swimmers medaling against some of the best swimmers in Canada.”
