LC Champs

Greeting CAST Crocs!!!

Last weekend was a wonderful Long Course Champs meet in Tri-Cities, WA.  We had 37 swimmers attend and we had 34 swimmers place in the top 14. We also had 20 of those 34 swimmers place in the Top 7. Very impressive. With the culmination of those performances CAST placed 3rd overall and won the Spirit Award.

8 and Unders: Ashley, our youngest competitor, placed in the top 14 in all three of her events. And stepped up on the 7th place 12 and Under relay when a fellow team was unable to be there. Brielle placed 2nd in the 100 Fly and 3rd on 200 Free Relay, 200 Medley Relay and 50 Fly. Maggie had quite a meet with two 3rd place relays (with Brielle), and place 1st in 200 IM, 200 FR, and 50 Free. The 200 IM bested her previous team record by 2.69 seconds. Maggie’s 2nd Place finish in the 100 BK (1:51.71) was also a team record by .17. Dallin finished the meet with 4 first place finishes in 50 FR, 100 FR, 100 BK and the 50 Fly.

9-10’s: The Crocs had quite a meet as well with Sam, Emily, Ethan, Rachel, Eli, Tillie swimming hard.   Sam had just age up into the 9-10 age group so place wise it was a tough meet, but put up two good swims on the 200 Medley Relay and in his individual 50 Free. Emily had one individual swim (50 FR) and totally dominated it which earned her a spot on the 12 and under B 200 Free relay.  Ethan stepped up when it counted for his team mates on the 9-10 200 FR relay, then swam an impressive 7 second drop in the 50 BR. Rachel swam 7 of 8 best times and place in the top 10 in every event she swam. Eli’s first LC champs was a success earning an 11th place finish in his 50 BK by dropping over 2 seconds. Tillie swam hard and had been trying to drop time in her 50 FR all season long and finally earned that with .4 second drop on the first day, and also rounded out the 4th leg of the 10 and under relays.

11-12: Pema dropped in 7 of her 8 events and her 400 Free stood out with a 22 second drop and 2nd place finish. Elijah had many best times and with a drop of 3+ seconds in his 100 BR earning him a 6th place finish in finals. Noah did a great job on both 200 Medley and Free relays that earned many points for the team, and dropped in his two best events, 50 FR and 50 BR. Erin had a wonderful meet, making it back each night for finals in most of her events, highlighted by her 4th place finish in the 50 BK. Despite spending a large portion of the season out of the water with a broken bone, Zach placed in the top 14 in the 50 and 100 Fly and best times in 5 events. Delaney started the meet with a best time in the 200 IM and ended with a best time in the 100 Free and was an outstanding cheerleader during the meet. In Trista’s preparation for Age Group Zones, she had set the bar high for herself. She had a best time in every event, and many of them were best times in prelims and then double dipped with getting even faster in finals. Lauren swam relentlessly in events and put together a 9 second drop in the 200 BK with a 6th place finish. Belle had her first long course champs and put up a best time in the 50 BK, which is a hard event for new swimmers drop in because of swimming outside.  Quinn earned best times in 6 of her 8 events with an impressive 4 second drop and 4th place finish in the 50 BR.

13-14: Although this was a small group by comparison in number they made it up with many great swims. Though having a tough second day, Demi, started and ended well with a great first and last day of the meet. Demi finished with 6 of 8 events with best times. Gabby swam LC Champs in preparation for Age Group Zones meet coming soon. Gabby put together a great line up of all 1st and 2nd place finishes for the weekend as well as 13-14 Girls High Point winner. Steven had a hand injury that kept him out the water the week or so leading up the meet and still dropped over 16 seconds in the 400 Free. Ben placed 13th in the 400 IM and put together 6 best times of 8. Alyssa battled back at this meet managing a best time in her 100 Back and was a huge contribution the 14 and under 2nd place finish in the 200 Free relay with Gabby, Demi and Kennedy. That relay started the weekend for Kennedy, then she got back up soon after and dropped 9 seconds in her 200 Breaststroke.

15 and Over: Ethan, Logan, Micah and Lanis attended the first two days of the meet and then had to leave early to prepare for senior zones. Before they took off all four competed on A relays for their age group. With the help of Wayne the boys won in the 200 Meter Free relay. They all placed in a couple of individual events as well before taking off. Ethan and Micah did a great job leading cheers while they were there and helping us to the spirit award victory.  On Sunday Sydney, Nikki and Taylen took over team cheers for the second half of the meet. Kudos also go to Josh for outstanding job cheering for teammates during finals between his races (sometime all by himself). As well swimming best times in 200 IM, 100 BR, 200 FR and 200 BK.  A huge congratulations to Mati and Kellen for competing in their first LC Champs around busy work schedules for them. Great Job for our distance swimmer Alli (4th in 400FR and 3rd in the 1500) and Isabelle (13th in 400 FR and 9th in 1500).  Lance made his first Senior Zones cut in the 100 BR (4th Place). Hope, coming back from an injury, completed a whole 3 day swim meet for the first time in a long time. Kylie manage a best time in the 100 Free after battling nearly a month long illness. Mason F. end the weekend with best times in both 100 FR and 100 Fly, which was back to back. Mason G. has had a bit of a shoulder injury, but finished the whole meet getting 6 best times out of 8 events. Finishing up for the 15 and over squad, Wayne had a best time in every event he swam.

Way to go CAST! The coaches are looking forward to our next season, as when good things end there is also a new beginning and I believe the ending is starting off the upcoming short course season with a bang.
