MRA Sizzlin' Summer Splash

The Manta Ray Aquatics Swim Team of Moses Lake hosted their annual Sizzlin’ Summer Splash meet at the Surf n’ Slide Aquatic Center this past weekend.  Close to 400 athletes and their families traveled to Moses Lake from various parts of Canada, Washington, Idaho, and Oregon to compete in a three-day event in the 50-meter competition pool of the Aquatic Center.  The meet was a huge success and drew not only perennial attending teams but several new teams as well.  For some swimmers, this was the last chance to qualify for some level of long course (50 meter) championship.  For others, it was a fun way to end their long course season before heading back into short course season (25 yard).

While this was the first long course event for some, most of the Manta Ray swimmers achieved personal best times during the meet, with a few swimmers dropping huge amounts of time.  There were several 10, 20, 30, & 40 second time drops and almost a minute drop in a couple of events.  Swimmers Luca Cristoloveanu, Sofia Estudillo, Laurel Knox, Melody Lake, Lennox Leeder, Cole Lindberg, Ashton McKean, Iver Minor, Damien Paluch, Makhaela Parrish, Marcus Quezada, and Zachary Washburn all had finishes in the top 8 scoring points for their team.

The team of Zachary Washburn, Melody Lake, Cole Lindberg, and Laurel Knox raced to a 3rd place finish in the 13 & Over 400 Medley Relay.  Knox and Lindberg also lead their 13 & Over 400 Freestyle relay to a 5th place finish with the help of their teammates Makhaela Parrish and Alex McLain.

The Manta Rays will now be sending a large group of swimmers to Inland Empire Swimming’s long course championship that will take place in Pasco, WA in two weeks.

"Our Manta Ray families did an amazing job making sure that this event was successful while also ensuring that our guests had a great time.  This team is truly blessed to have such great volunteers, coaches, and amazing swimmers!"

Manta Ray Aquatics would like to thank Moses Lake and surrounding communities as well as all of their sponsors for their continued support of the swim team.
