Futures/Champs Wrap-Up

UPAC sent swimmers to two high level swim meets over the past weekend.

In Federal Way, UPAC had over 30 swimmers participate at the 14&U Pacific Northwest Swimming Championships. PNS Champs is the highest level of Age Group swimming exclusive to members of Pacific Northwest Swimming. As a team, UPAC placed 7th overall out of over 50 teams in Pacific Northwest Swimming. Congratulations to all swimmers who participated!

In Gresham, OR, 8 UPAC swimmers raced in the USAS West Futures Championships. Futures is the second of 5 steps on the USAS Championship Meet series that culminates with Senior Nationals/Olympic Trials. Qualifying and participating at this meet is a big step in the development of elite senior swimming. Keep up the great work!

Highlights between the two meets included:

At Futures, Patrick Keough broke the Boys 15-16 PNS record in the 100m Butterfly (55.08), which placed him second overall in the event. This means Patrick has swum the fastest 100m Fly EVER by 15-16 year old swimmers in Pacific Northwest Swimming. The record was previously held by Nathan Adrian. Patrick also placed second in the meet overall in his 200m Fly, and scored in the Boys 200m Free placing 10th overall. Congratulations Patrick!

3 UPAC Swimmers placed first overall in one or more Individual Events at 14&U Champs, solidifying themselves as PNS Champions! Gabi Bellin won the 13-14 Girls 50m Free (27.74) and 100m Free (59.73), Aiden Hammer won the 11-12 Boys 200m Free (2:13.31), 400m Free (4:41.52), 1500m Free (18:39.14), 200 Back (2:31.32), and 200 Fly (2:29.44), while Peyton Ross won the 13-14 Girls 100m Fly (1:05.66). Well done Champions!

David Idio achieved his first ever Senior Sectional qualifying time in the Men's 100m Backstroke (1:03.87). Sectionals is the first of five steps on the USAS Championship Meet Series that culminates with Senior Nationals/Olympic Trials. Great swim David!

Grant Bellin (10&U Boys) achieved his first ever Age Group Regional time standard in the 50m Fly (36.76) and 100m Fly (1:24.97). Age Group Regionals is the highest level of Age Group Competition exclusive to swimmers in the PN, OR, MT, IE, AK, HI, WY, and SR LSC's. Nice job Grant!
