Record Breaking season for TWST swimmers
2019 has been a record breaking year for TWST swimmers.
So far in 2019 TWST swimmers have put a beating on TWST team records. Thus far, 19 team records (9 individual and 10 relay) have gone down!
Starting with the short course season TWST swimmers set a couple of new team records in the 13-14 and 15-16 age groups. It started in January 2019 during at the TWST January invite with Abigail Monson and Roberto Bonilla Flores and continued through February at the HS state meets where Tyler Hulet and Izzy Krantzcke both added new team records.
Abby Monson adder her name to the TWST record books in the 13-14 100 IM. The over-all team record dates back 12 years to 2007 held by TWST swimmer Meghan Wisenbaker. Abby posted a time of 1:01.61 eclipsing the previous mark of 1:01.91.
On the boys side Roberto added his name on the TWST records in the same event, the 100 IM, with a time of 55.24. That obliterated an 11 year old record by 4 seconds from 2008.
Izzy added a new team record in the 13-14 100 yard breaststroke erasing a 24 year old age group record from 2005 held by Kelly Flynn and a 34 year old over-all team record held by Lindsey Etter from 1995 going 1:03.10!
Tyler followed up with a performance in the 100 backstroke erasing the 15-16 boys team record by former TWST standout Grey Umbach from 2011 going 48.51. Only a sophomore that time is within .03 of the overall team record held by Dan Wescott from 1999.
The trend continued at the Texas Age Group State meet held in March at the CISD natatorium where TWST 13-14 boys set new team records in ALL 5 RELAYS: 200 free, 400 free, 800 free, 200 medley, and 400 medley. Roberto Bonilla Flores, Aidan Flanagan, Victor Guerrero, Javier Pena Reyes, Ryan Sen, and Henry Shea all contributed to the team efforts!
The 13-14 boys short course 800 free and 400 medley were also GULF LSC records and Texas Age Group State records AND the 400 medley combo of Javier Pena Reyes, Roberto Bonilla Flores, Henry Shea, and Victor Guerrero is a USA Swimming Southern Zone record!
The long course season has been just as action packed! Starting at Gulf Age Group Champs where the first record of the summer fell as Hector Pena, Ryan Sen, Aidan Flanagan, and Victor Guerrero combined for a new 13-14 400 free relay record.
Following up just a couple of weeks later and the 13-14 boys again put an onslaught on ALL 5 long course relay records! The group of Roberto Bonilla Flores, Aidan Flanagan, Victor Guerrero, Hector Pena, and Ryan Sen wiped the team records clean posting new times by up to 7 seconds ahead of previous times! The 200 free relay of Aidan Flanagan, Ryan Sen, Hector Pena, and Victor Guerrero also set a new GULF LSC record and the 400 medley quartet of Ryan Sen, Roberto Bonilla Flores, Victor Guerrero, and Aidan Flanagan also set new GULF LSC and Texas State records.
Individually TWST has also had some standout performances:
Roberto Bonilla Flores set new 13-14 boys team records in the 1500 free (16:30.54), 200 fly (2:07.60), and 400 IM (4:36.57). The 1500 was from 2007, while the 200 fly and 400 IM from 2008.
Senior 1 swimmer Cotton Fields got into the action this season with a new team record in the 15-16 200m backstroke posted at the Southern Senior Zone Championships. His time of 2:05.48 eclipsed the previous mark of 2:06.03 from Dan Westcott from 1997.
Not to be outdone, Tyler Hulet returned to the pool at the Speedo Summer Junior Nationals with a team record of his own in the 200m backstroke with a 2:05.04.
Starting the 2019-2020 SC season we plan to see more all-time great team and individual performances! Congrats to the 11 athletes who have been some of the best TWST has seen!
