Post Season Recap

Hello Aspen Swim Families,

This past weekend our Gold Swimmers finished the last of their post-season competitions.  They represented Aspen Swim Club well!  Our athletes are a pleasure to coach, and we look forward to next season!  Sign-up will be available very soon; I will send out a quick reminder, once we are online.

Kayla Tehrani and Laila Khan-Farooqi competed at Western Senior Zones in Clovis CA.  We had a few long hot days at the meet, but the girls swam tough! There were over 1000 competitors.  Both girls had a great 100 Fly, each dropping significant time. Kayla’s 400 IM & 200 Fly, and Laila’s 200 Free were also impressive.  It was thrilling to watch Laila and Kayla drop time in nearly every race, and to root for Kayla in 2 finals (100 & 200 Fly)!

Shea Card and Lillie Boggs competed at Futures in Des Moines, IA.  Lillie started off with a strong 800 FR, and followed up with great swims in the 100 BR and 400 IM. On Saturday Aspen Swim Club made an impact on the meet. Shea Card had been ranked 56 in the 100 Backstroke; he dropped over two seconds and went into finals seeded 9th! He swam tough at night and is learning how to compete at this level. Lillie followed Shea with a great 200 BR, in which she made the A finals and finished 8th over all.  It was fun to watch these young Aspen swimmers in Finals! Shea awoke the next morning and crushed the 200 Back, moving up 29 spots and doing a best time by 2 seconds! Lillie finished the meet with a solid mile.

Bennett Jones competed at the Age-group Zones in Mt Hood, OR.  The Mt. Hood pool is outdoors, and it can be quite cold there! Bennett had never raced the 200 LC back outside, under those conditions.  It was a challenge that she accepted.  While her swims were not where she hoped, she did learn how to DO IT ALL on her own (no coach, no parents, & no teammates).  She can start next season with new confidence, knowing that she can go it alone when necessary!

Nice Job Aspen Swim!!  Tom and I want to send a special thanks to Thea Khan-Farooqi and Emily Boggs for serving as very helpful and cheerful chaperones!
