The City of Mason coaches swept the 2019 Ohio Swimming Coach of the Year awards for the second year in a row!
These awards were voted on by coaches from the 60+ teams in Ohio – and will awarded at the Ohio Swimming Banquet this Sunday afternoon at the Manor House in Mason. Each award comes with a $1000 stipend to the City for continuing education.
Coach Katie Schmidt was voted Ohio Age Group Coach of the Year for leading the age group (14 & younger) portion of our program to its highest finish ever at the Ohio JO State Meet (2nd in both Short Course & Long Course) as well as coaching the bulk of 11-12 girls who WON the Ohio Age Group State Junior Olympics. This is the second year in a row the Manta Rays have won this award. Todd Billhimer won the 2019 (Todd placed second in the overall voting this year).
Coach Ken Heis was voted Ohio Coach of the Year for leading the team to winning the men’s USA Swimming Junior National Championships and the combined team USA Swimming Winter Junior National Championships, setting numerous state and national records, & putting three swimmers on USA Swimming’s National Junior Team. This is the third year in a row Ken has won this award and fifth time winning over the last 12 years: 2007, 2008, 2017, 2018, & 2019.
