BILOXI CONQUERS THE COAST AT 2019 SEASON OPENER

The Biloxi High School Swim Team kicked off the 2019 high school swim season this past Saturday at the Coastal Invitational, and what a kick off it was.  Over 300  athletes from 13 teams across the coast raced at the Biloxi Natatorium on brand new starting blocks in a pool decked out in RED AND WHITE!!

The Biloxi Indian Girls Swim Team came in 2nd overall (just 4 points behind OLA) and the Biloxi Indian Boys Swim Team came in 1st overall, beating out 12 other local teams.  In addition, Biloxi set two new meet records and achieved over 40 new South State Championship cuts.

NEW MEET RECORDS

Layk Roundtree, Charles Crocker, Dyogo Penafiel, and Jordan Abrahams (Biloxi) took down the 200 medley relay record from 2017 with a time of 1:47.57, previously held by Ocean Springs.

Dyogo Penafiel (Biloxi) took down the 100 butterfly record, set by Ocean Springs swimmer Evan Guichard in 2016.  Penafiel broke the record in a time of 57.76, over 1.5 seconds faster than the old record.

THE REPORT FROM THE COACHES TABLE

Swim meets, just like each training session, are an important measurement tool.  They show us where we are right now and they give us a flash light, per say, to help us look down the tunnel at the work that needs to be done.  To be racing the times we are racing this early in the season, while sore, tired, and unshaved, is a good sign and true testament to the work that is being put in by our athletes and staff.  Don’t get comfortable.  This weekend lit a fire under a lot of folks.  I encourage you to put gasoline on that fire.

THE TIMELINE

33 DAYS UNTIL DEMORUELLE INVITATIONAL

54 DAYS UNTIL SOUTH STATE CHAMPS

61 DAYS UNTIL STATE CHAMPS

TO OUR FAITHFUL VOLUNTEERS: THANK YOU WILL NEVER BE ENOUGH FOR THE TIME YOU GIVE TO MAKE THIS PROGRAM A SUCCESS!  The role of the parent volunteer is the backbone of all successful youth sports teams and you guys are the real deal.  There is no way we could do the work we do with these kids without all of your behind the scene work.  It takes a village.  The coaches would like to specifically thank our booster club members and our loyal, generous fans and sponsors for the continued support of Biloxi Indian Swimming.

GO BIG RED!
