King of the Hill Meet – Registration Open!

Registration for this year’s King of the Hill meet opened today! Please click here to register.

Reno Aquatic Club hosts this meet, and we expect it to fill-up quickly. Be sure you sign your child up ASAP. See the section below for how to register for meets through SwimConnection.

Next Swim Meet: Minden Meet September 13 – 15

The next swim meet RENO will attend is the Molly Lahlum Memorial Autumn Freeze at the Carson Valley Swim Center in Minden, NV. Please have your swimmer talk with his/her coach about what events/days they should attend.

For those families new to the team, the current process to sign-up for local swim meets is as follows:

- Have your child talk with his/her coach regarding the events they should register for.

- The parent will then sign-up the child using the online registration or mailing an entry. The majority of our families sign-up online. Click here to access the registration form.

- For this meet, SwimConnection is the online registration software. If you do not have an account, I recommend creating an account. Many local meets use SwimConnection. Having an account will make your life easier.

- Follow the registration process and pay for entries. You should receive an immediate confirmation that the entries were received.

- “No TIMES” for the Minden meet will be accepted. So if this is your child’s first swim meet or he/she has not swam the event before, you can enter him/her with a NO TIME (swimmer’s must meet the requirement for the 1000 and 1650 free to have NO TIME).

- If you need help with the process or creating an account, please click here for a “how-to guide.”

State Meet

The annual Nevada State Championships will take place in Henderson, NV over Veteran’s Day Weekend. The details aren’t posted, but from my understanding the meet will take place Friday, November 8 – Monday, November 11. Friday will be the distance events.

The State qualifying times should not change from last year. Click here for a link to the 2018 qualifying times.

Last year, we had many families scratch out of finals on the last day due to travel arrangements that required them to leave early. Please be sure you book your travel, so swimmers do not have to miss finals on Monday. 10-under swimmers will finish mid-day on Monday.

I will have more information in the coming weeks.

Parent Education

Since we have many new families who have recently joined the team now is a great time to reintroduce the motivation behind the weekly Parent Education topic.

The parents of Reno Aquatic Club have diverse backgrounds when it comes to swimming. Some parents participated as age groupers/high school swimmers, others competed at the collegiate level, and we have parents who haven’t swum a lap in their life. We also have many parents who come from other sports.

Swimming is such a unique sport and it can be difficult to understand at times – as swimmers and parents. Because of this, I decided to start a “Parent Education” section in each weekly email last October.

The goal is to share information that you can then use with your child, especially if your child is going through a rough patch (examples: he/she had a challenging practice, he/she had a bad swim at a meet, etc.). If the messaging to the swimmer is consistent coming from the coaches and parents, we will be able to better help him/her accomplish his/her goals.

RENO has improved so much over the last 18-months, and I am happy with how things are going… but it is crucial to have a positive culture on the team if we want to continue to move forward. I am hoping this “Parent Education” section will help us keep heading in a positive direction.

Topics are wide ranging and cover many different facets of being a swim parent. Since starting this section last fall, I feel have become a better coach researching topics and writing the weekly Parent Education topic. I hope you have found beneficial information in this section. I look forward to continuing it during the 2019/2020 season.

Each week, I update the Parent Education section on our website with the newest article. Please click here to access it.

Meet Schedule

I am working on finalizing our meet schedule for the 2019/2020 season, but here are the next meets RENO will be attending:

- September 13 – 15 – Molly Lahlum Memorial Autumn Freeze / Minden, NV

- October 18 – 20 – RENO’s King of the Hill Meet / Carson City, NV

If you have any questions or comments, please let me know. Thank you for your support.
