Over 1000 of the best swimmers in the world ranging from 14 – 18 years of age represented a total of 107 Nations at the FINA World Jr. Championships in Budapest, Hungary from August 20th – 25th. Langley Olympians Swim Club swimmer Bailey Herbert 16yrs swam as part of Team Canada which was made up of the top swimmers in Canada from 14 – 18 years of age. Team Canada came away with a total of 2 Gold, 5 Silver and 5 Bronze Medals.
Bailey Herbert placed 15th and set a new Olympians 15-17yrs Swim Club record in the 50m Breaststroke with a best time of 31.98. She placed 13th in the 200m Individual Medley with a time of 2:17.12, 16th in the 200m Breaststroke with a time of 2:30.08, 18th in the 100m Breaststroke with a time of 1:10.74. She also placed 20th in the 400m Individual Medley with a time of 4:58.72 and 22nd in the 200m Butterfly with a time of 2:19.24
2019 marks the seventh FINA World Jr Championships. This meet is designed to bring together and discover the future stars of aquatics. Team Canada ranked fifth overall with a total of 12 medals. For Bailey and the other Team Canada members it was an amazing opportunity to represent Canada and swim and compete alongside some of the top swimmers from around the world. Past LOSC swimmers attending the World Jr Championships are Melanie Dodds 2006, and Chelsey Salli 2008.
