What an outstanding meet this evening. The team swam phenomenally. Throughout the meet, I was trying to keep score in my head and I knew it was going to come down to the last relay in order for LCN to defeat IKE for the first time in a dual meet. The team needed to finish 1-3 in order to win the meet. However, when I looked at the swimmers IKE had in their relay, I knew it was going to be a long shot. At the conclusion of the relay, I thought the team lost the meet by 4 points. I was extremely pleased to find out I was wrong and we actually tied with both teams scoring 88 points. This is the closest the team has ever come to defeating IKE in a dual meet. In the the past 3 years LCN lost to IKE by (2018) 41 points, (2017) 8 points and (2016) 45 points.
I have been talking to the team about setting team goals and that the team has three specific goals: 1. Stay top 3 at the County Meet, 2. Defeat Dakota at the Division Meet and 3. I want every swimmer at a Championship Meet to receive an award.
In order to accomplish these goals, it is going to take the entire effort of every member of the team. The team is on the correct track with the following swimmers earning County cuts tonight: Tori Beels, Makayla Owensby, Hannah Gurecki, Emma Dutkiewicz, Sara Bauer, Lauren Paris, Brianne Lowe, AnnDee Geddes, MacKenzie Owensby and Olivia Perfili. Malaya Bingham, our diver, needs a 120 two meet average to qualify and her score tonight was 124.15.
The team also qualified swimmers for the MISCA meet. this included the 200 Medley Relay, Lauren Paris (50 & 100 free) and Hannah Gurecki (100 breast).
The following other members of the team obtained lifetime best times this evening: Megan Combs, Jenna Loyal, Madison McMullen and Karalyn Maslowski.
Last year the team had only qualified nine swimmers for the County meet against IKE. This year, the team has qualified 10 swimmers and the potential exists for several more swimmers to qualify.
Every year, I always present a challenge to the team in order to convince me to cancel practice on Friday before Labor Day. Basically the challenge is always the same. Because of how well the team swam this evening, there will be NO PRACTICE on Friday, August 30, 2019!
