Welcome New and Returning Swimmers!

Greetings DC Wave Parents & Swimmers!

Welcome to the DC Wave Swim Team! For new families we want to welcome you to the team and provide you with some helpful information before practices begin for the season. Our coaches are looking forward to a fun and fast year of swimming, and are excited to have you join us on this journey!

When is the first day of practice?

For the majority of our training groups the first day of practice begins Monday, September 9th. However, please double check your swimmer's training group schedule in advance, as some of our groups practice on specific days, and may not start until Tuesday, September 10.

Our training group schedule can be found on our team website - www.dcwaveswimteam.com under the Training tab.

What is the Booster Club and why do I have to join/pay?

Our swim team has long been a collaborative effort between the local government (DPR), and a private not for profit organization (the DC Wave Booster Club). This partnership has allowed for our team members to benefit from both the resources of the government and also enjoy the financial flexibility and freedom of a private organization.

While DPR handles all of the big and expensive costs associated with running a competitive swimming program: coaches salaries, facility rental and maintenance costs, equipment purchases, and annual USA Swimming membership dues; the Booster Club handles all the other amenities you would come to expect from a year round competitive swimming program: team fundraisers, team events, awards, uniforms, team travel, meet entry and splash fees, meet hospitality, and meet concessions.

This arrangement has allowed for our team to be successful in its mission to deliver a quality and affordable competitive swimming experience to generations of swimmers and their families. To continue in this mission requires the support of families like yours to join our Booster Club, be involved in Booster Club decisions and planning, volunteer for team events and jobs, and advocate for the team. In this way we can continue to provide DC residents and neighbors with a vibrant and successful competitive swimming program at a fraction of the cost of neighboring private swim clubs and teams.

How much does the Booster Club cost and how do I join?

Annual Booster Club dues are $435 per family. For families with more than one swimmer, a sibling discount price of $140 is charged for each additional swimmer past the first.

Booster Club dues can be paid in full at the time of registration or can be broken up into four (4) monthly installments via our payment plan. A minimum deposit of $75 is due before October 7 to register as a Booster Club family . Families who are not registered with the Booster Club after October 7 will have their swimmer dropped from the swim team, and swimmers from the waiting lists will be invited to join the team to fill their spot.

To register for the Booster Club please visit our swim team website at www.dcwaveswimteam.com , and click on " Start Registration " . Returning families must also register as well for the 2019-2020 season, as your TeamUnify account will not automatically re-register you for the next season.

When is the first swim meet and how do I sign up?

Our first meet is fast approaching! We will be hosting an All Freestyle Tri-Meet (3 teams only) on Saturday, September 28 at Takoma . This meet is open to all DC Wave swimmers who are registered with the Booster Club for the 2019-2020 season.

Events for the meet will include: 50 Free, 100 Free, 200 Free, and 500 Free (for 11 & Over only). All ages and training groups are eligible and encouraged to participate.

To sign up for swim meets: 1) Register for the 2019-2020 Booster Club; 2) go to www.dcwaveswimteam.com and log into your newly created Booster Club account; 3) scroll down to the Events section and click on the pink button that says " Edit Commitment " next to the All Freestyle Meet.

From here you can select which swimmer(s) linked to your account you would like to sign up for a meet, which days/sessions you wish for them to attend, and even which events you wish to see them swim.

*Pro Tip: Take advantage of as many team hosted or home meets as you possibly can. Most meets charge a meet entry fee per event which can range from $1-$12 at certain meets. These meet entry fees are charged to your Booster Club account and can add up very quickly if you have multiple swimmers tied to your account or your swimmers are competing often. We do not charge a meet entry fee to DC Wave swimmers at the meets that we host, so home meets are virtually free for DC Wave swimmers!

How and when does my swimmer get their uniform?

Once you have joined the Booster Club for the 2019-2020 season, your swimmer is eligible to pick up their uniform from our team vendor - Capital Sport & Swim in Kensington, MD.

The base uniform package includes:

  • Team swim suit - to be worn at competitions, not practices

  • Team swim cap

  • Team t-shirt

You can pick up your swimmer's uniform from Capital Sport & Swim during their normal business hours, or attend one of our Back 2 Pool nights at Capital Sport & Swim :

  • Sunday, September 15 starting at 10:00 am - Close

  • Thursday, September 19 from 5:00-8:00 pm.

Back 2 Pool Night will feature DC Wave swag giveaways (while supplies last) and also discount pricing on goggles, fins, suits, and select training equipment and merchandise in the store for all registered DC Wave Booster Club families.

What if I still have more questions?

Still confused? Completely understandable, we get it, there is a lot of information to keep track of. We encourage you to bring all your unanswered questions to our New Parent meeting on Saturday, September 21 at Takoma at 10:00 am. Representatives from our coaching staff and Booster Club will be available to go over all things DC Wave with you.
