Hello EMAC Families,
As per USA Swimming policy: All swimmers need to be start certified to use the blocks at swim meets. Please remember, these certifications are for your childs safety. This is to protect your swimmer from the risk of head/neck/or back injuries through a progression that will make sure they are able to control the angle and depth at which they enter the pool. With the intrasquad meet this weekend, we began the start certification process on Monday and will be continuing to offer certifications throughout the week.
EMAC will be lifting the specified practice days for both the Bumble Bee and Honey Bee groups on Thursday and Friday so your swimmer can be start certified. If your swimmer is not certified by Thursday, you will receive a email from your groups lead coach about attending Friday for start certification. USA Swimming dictates that if an athlete does not complete the certification, they are still able to compete in meets, but must start all events from in the water for that meet.
Following the link provided HERE will lead you to the USA Swimming website where they discuss the safety notice to member clubs and coaches regarding teaching of racing starts. This link also provides a FAQ section on racing start certifications.
Thank you for your understanding and see you at the pool!
