All I can say is WOW, what an incredible meet! I could not have been more proud in the manor in which our team competed tonight, with as sore as they are, defeating Anchor Bay by a score of 94-86. The meet was filled with extremely close races, extremely gut-see swims. I think prior to the meet the team believed they would defeat Anchor Bay easily, until I reminded them that yes they won last year (by 9 points, Anchor Bay had destroyed them at the Division Meet and that most of their strength was in their returning swimmers. The victory tonight was truly an entire team effort.
The entire meet was extremely close. If I remember correctly LCN had the biggest lead of 8 points after the 50 free. At the conclusion of the backstroke, Anchor Bay was winning by 2 points. LCN regained the lead after the breaststroke by 2 points. This meant that LCN had to win the 400 free relay to be victorious or take second and third to tie. Prior to the start of the event, I emphasized to both teams what they needed to accomplish. The team of Makayla Owensby, Olivia Perfili, Emma Dutkiewicz and MacKenzie Owensby completed their task insuring a third place finish and the team of Lauren Paris, AnnDee Geddes, Brianne Lowe and Hannah Gurecki won the event by .01 seconds.
The following swimmers posted either season best times or lifetime best times this evening in the following events: 200 Free - Brianne Lowe, Makayla Owensby & Rachel Yung, 200 IM - Hannah Gurecki, Tori Beels & Megan Combs, , 50 Free - Olivia Perfili, Sydney Johns, Emilia Ridderikhoff, Jenna Loyal & Madison McMullen, 1 Meter Diving - Malaya Bingham, 100 Fly - Tori Beels, Sara Bauer & Gabby Fischer, 100 Free - Rachel Yung & Megan Combs, 500 Free - Makayla Owensby, Olivia Perfili & Rachel Yung, 100 Back - Emma Dutkiewicz, Jenna Loyal & Madison McMullen, 100 Breast - Jenna Bliss, Emilia Ridderikhoff, Megan Combs, Peyton Cooper & Jessica Raleigh.
As you can see, it was an amazing meet and I am proud of the team in the fact that they are learning how to race with their muscles sore. If the team can continue to learn this, I am extremely excited to see what will happen at the end of the season!
