Happy Sunday  Bengal Families!

Whew. Take a breath. What a week! We have just had 5 meets in 10 days with numerous sick kids and we all SURVIVED! Give your selves a round of applause. You can do hard things! Isn't that cool?!

I am so so impressed how this team came together, stepped up for eachother and supported eachother through this long stretch of meets. We topped it off with an  AMAZING win on Saturday at Maroon and Gold! That meet proved that this team is something special. After a long stretch we had too many seasons bests to count and really just proved we know how to step up and compete when the occasion calls for it. I belive we remembered how fun it is to compete on Saturday and focused on the team which really lead to a  VICTORY! So much fun.

It is a great way to lead into this weeks theme:  POSITIVE MENTAL ATTITUDE! O my gosh its just my favorite!

I believe in a  Positive  Mental  Attitude with my whole heart (just ask the girls). It is such a critical piece to success. A positive attitude really can change how we view our situations. A PMA helps us overcome hard days, lift up our teammates, push through days that don't go the way we want and perservere! A PMA makes life more fun and keeps our focus on the right things.

The best part is Positive Mental Attitude is a choice athletes get to make! They can CHOSE to have a PMA in every situation but the language is important. They can change things from "I have to" to "I get to". They can change "This is hard" to "This is an opportunity to get better", "I'm nervous" to "I'm ready" and "I can't" to "I will". I ask for 100% effort, not best times or best scores in every meet but we do ask for a PMA and for them to show up every day. Getting their minds in the right spot makes us better as a team and helps them across all areas of their life!

Below is my favorite TED Talk that talks about how a PMA helps us with our overall well being!

Cell Phone Policy

Now a less fun update. We are having an issue with cell phones. Our Cell Phone policy is listed under the Team Rules tab but I want to reiterate it here: Cell Phones are NOT allowed in the locker rooms or on deck. Atheltes are not to have their cell phones during meets. They have all been given their verbal warning. If athletes are found to have their cell phones in the locker room or on deck the following actions will be taken:

  1. Athlete looses individual events
  2. Athlete is removed from the next meet
  3. Athletes are removed from the next two meets and a parnet meeting is requested
  4. Athlete is no longer apart of our team

I take this very seriously and honestly whether other teams observe this rule is up to them but as Bengals, we will make sure athletes are protected and focused on the team while we are together. There are always exceptions to the rule but that is for our coaching staff to determine based on individual need. If you have questions or your athlete has questions please let me know!

Homecoming Week:

It is homecoming week! Homecoming is FUN and an awesome High School experience. I am a huge fan of school spirit and all the work Student Council does to put on a great event! That being said, athletes need to make smart decisions not to stay out too late, not to give into poor decisions their peers might be making and focusing on their end goals of the season! Juniors and Seniors, I am not saying no but I do not reccomend playing Powder Puff. An Anoka athelte was not at Maroon and Gold because she was tackled during the powderpuff football game. It is not worth risking their season to play but they ultimately have to make the choice. (feel free to call me for the full rant on Powder Puff :) )
