Stingrays News Update - week of 9/23/19

Summer is trying so hard to hang on, but it’s officially fall!!  Fortunately for us, ice cream is never out of season! We’re looking forward to seeing everyone this Wednesday at North Farmington for the Merchandise Expo and Ice Cream Social from 7-8:30pm. ( PLEASE SIGN UP HERE. We need every swimmer who is expecting a bowl of ice cream to sign up!!!) There are adjustments to the practice schedule that day, so please read this entire email.

  • The NEW Bronze Group Practice time is 6:00-7:00pm on Monday, Wednesday, Friday. This starts TODAY!
  • Our Merchandise Expo and Ice Cream Social is coming up THIS Wednesday, September 25 at 7pm at North Farmington High School, right outside the pool doors! (Not sure where that is? Click here for a map.) Please sign up for this FREE event  here (so we know how much ice cream to purchase!) Yes, I’m repeating myself. Why? Because it’s necessary, especially on Monday mornings with only one cup of coffee so far…cheeky
    • Come try on team suits, tech suits and spirit wear! Preview the selection on our Team E-Shop here!
    • Swimmers will get ice cream!
    • Practice will be modified that evening as follows:
      • Miniray and Bronze: 5:45-6:15pm at the YMCA
      • Silver: 6:15-6:45pm at the YMCA
      • Gold and Senior: 5:45-7:00pm at North Farmington
  • The first YMCA Meet of the season is now live in the system! The BBD Fall Festival will be held on October 26-27 at Lake Orion High School, and you can sign up HERE. Each session that you compete in at this meet counts toward the three-meet requirement for the season, and the coaches expect every swimmer to attend at least one session of this meet.  New swimmers can ask their coaches what events they are ready to swim.  Not sure how to sign up?  Click here for answers!
  • If you're on Facebook, be sure to like out page "FFYS Boosters"!

Also, I’d like to attempt to clear up some questions about Team Caps. The team caps are on the Merchandise E-shop (chick here to see it). There are FOUR options for team caps:

  • Plain latex team cap
  • Latex team cap with your name on it (must be purchased in sets of 2)
  • Plain silicone team cap
  • Silicone team cap with your name on it (must be purchased in sets of 2)

Every swimmer gets one “cap credit”, which is equal to the cost of a plain latex team cap ($3.90). You may purchase as many caps in whatever variety that you want, and the Boosters will apply a “cap credit” to your online account for each registered swimmer. For example, if you have two swimmers, you will receive two cap credits. If you have three swimmers, you will receive three cap credits and a sympathetic hug. If you have four swimmers, you’ll receive four cap credits, receive a sympathetic hug, and we’ll pray daily for your sanity.

What’s happening in the pool this week:

Mini rays and Bronze will continue to learn proper technique and racing skills for backstroke and freestyle, but we will also introduce breaststroke this week.

Silver group will shift its focus to racing skills – starts, turns, breakouts, etc. – this week. We will also begin to incorporate more difficult training sets, and our weekly test sets will start this Wednesday. Remember that mesh bags with kickboards, pull buoys, and fins are now required at every practice, and that water bottles are also mandatory equipment. If you have an inhaler, please do have it on deck with you during practice.

Gold group will be starting dryland this week. Dryland will be on Monday & Friday and will take place during the first 15 minutes of each practice. Please make sure to wear running shoes, socks, t-shirt and gym shorts. Test sets will continue this week as well. We will also continue with our interval training and get into relay exchanges

Senior group will be working on IM exchange turns in the beginning of this week and move towards major non free stroke towards the end of the week. Dryland on Tuesday/Thursday with test set day on Wednesday. Again, remember to wear gym shoes shorts and a t-shirt for Dryland. Also a reminder that you need a yoga mat for Sunday morning practices at the Y. Also, everyone needs to remember to bring a water bottle to practice every day.
