October Newsletter - Coach Megan Retiring

Dear OLSC Families,

It is with a heavy heart I announce my retirement from coaching at the end of this year. Due to unforeseen family circumstances, I feel it is the best time for me and my family to hang up my coaching hat at the conclusion of the fall session.

It has truly been a privilege to be a part of your swimmers lives, both in and out of the water. I want to thank you all for allowing me the opportunity to coach your swimmers. It truly is the best part of my day when I can be on the pool deck interacting with the kids.

Please trust that the Board is working diligently to find a replacement for the head coach position. If you know of anyone in the community that would like to be involved, please reach out. In the meantime, all of our coaches are qualified and capable of righting the ship following my departure. Your swimmers needs are top priority for all of us and we will continue to make their needs our number one concern.

On another note, there has also been a lot of confusion and concern surrounding what appeared to be an abrupt decision by the board to cancel our home swim meet in October. Unfortunately, this has decision has been a long time coming and the Board finally reached a deadline that required them to cancel the home meet. The administration in charge of facility and use permits for Laker Hall has been unresponsive to our request to host a meet in October, despite the board’s request placed 6 months ago and persistent follow up. Without a signed facility use agreement or contract for fees related to usage of the pool, we can’t move forward with a home meet. I know this is disappointing news to all of us, but we will have plenty of other opportunities for swimmers to race in local meets. More discussion surrounding our home meet and future home meets will take place at an upcoming parents meeting. Please keep an eye out for communication from Dan Ignacio.

We kicked off the racing season in Syracuse last weekend and our swimmers did great, posting best times! The coaching staff looks forward to continued momentum and positivity at the meet in Mexico next weekend.

See you on the pool deck!
