It was another great weekend of swimming. This time it was our Senior Groups’ time to shine as 18 of our Barracudas traveled to Newark Academy in Livingston to compete at the TYR Distance Derby. While there was plenty to brag about their performances, the big story was the events they tackled. As the name of the meet implies, events were geared towards longer, more challenging events. Of the 53 splashes swum by our athletes nearly a third of them were first-ever swims that took them out of their comfort zone. Aside from new-found confidence, swimmers earned a few Personal Best Times, Top Places, some Gold cuts, and even a new Team Record!
Personal Bests were swum in Peyton Berg’s 200 Back (-0.41); Alex Flanagan’s 200 Fly (-0.35); Matt Freund’s 400 IM (-0.35); Jake Riva’s 500 Free (-4.96); Billy Ruddy’s 200 Back (-5.01); Clare Schwartz’s 500 Free (-1.54); and Will Vetter’s 400 IM (-7.98). Matt and Jake’s were new Gold times! There were a total of 16 Gold times swum over the weekend, and 11 Silvers.
There was plenty of Red & Black out-touching their competition, with 19 Top 3 places earned by Jillian Berg (2nd in 400 IM); Peyton Berg (3rd in 200 Back); Matt Freund (3rd in 1650 Free); Grace Maruska (200 Breast); Syd Mills (2nd in 200 Back, 3rd in 400 IM); Jake Riva (2nd in 200 Breast & 200 Fly); Billy Ruddy (3rd in 400 IM, 2nd in 1650); Clare Schwartz (2nd in 200 Back), and our First Place finishers Matt Freund (200 Fly, 400 IM); Jordan Maruska (200 Back, 200 Breast, 500 Free, 1000 Free); and Jake Riva (200 Back, 500 Free).
Congratulations to Matt Freund on setting a New Team Record in the 200 Fly!
Great job everyone. Next up is Holiday Splash and Holiday Classic in December!
Happy Thanksgiving to all!
