NEW SAFE SPORT PROTOCOLS

With our Head Coach, CHRIS DAHOWSKI, recently elected to the Coastal Committee Chair for Safe Sport—Paseo Aquatics has approached its station as one of the few SAFE SPORT sanctioned USA-Swimming clubs with increased vigor.

Effective JANUARY 1st, 2020, the following protocols will become mandatory:

“HAMMERHEAD” Swim Caps for All Discovery, Junior l and Junior ll Swimmers

Inside of cap – outside of cap looks smooth, like a regular swim cap

For those not familiar with this brand of swim cap, the Hammerhead cap provides a shock-absorbing layer of padding for additional protection.

70% of head injuries with respect to swimming occur during crowded warm-up lanes and swim practices. Though we cannot remove the potential for accidents, we can minimize the risk of significant head injuries. The mandatory requirement of outfitting our youngest swimmers with the Hammerhead cap will ensure this measure is taken.

We will be forwarding information in the coming days with respect to cost and availability.

Paseo Aquatics Liability Waiver

Each and every Paseo Aquatics athlete or parent/guardian will be required to submit a fully signed and executed LIABILITY WAIVER.  This is a critical step in the protection of the club, swimmers and staff moving forward.

The form will be issued via email and must be returned to your Group Representative by January 1st, 2020.

Any swimmers (or family representative) who has not returned a fully signed Liability Waiver will NOT be permitted to swim until the form has been received by the club.

Monthly Milestones

Silver/Sr.1

Silver:   I want to let all my kids know how amazing they swam up to this point. I got 3 new WAG qualifiers. Breanne Kirsch 100 BR, Olivia Boylan 200BK and 50 FR, Noah Sanchez 400IM and Peyton Morse got 4 consecutive WAG cuts at Buena.

SR1:  We want to introduce 4 new swimmers to our Winter Championship Team. River Maners 50 free, Harrison Kim200 back (first time ever swimming it!) and Brandon Kim 100 Free. Not to mention Adam Meldrum getting his Spring JO cut in 50 free.

Silver and SR1 combined have 65% (31 of 47) of swimmers qualified for Winter Championship Meet. Our group season goal is 75%. Big round of applause to all the great swimmers working hard and showing their dedication.

Sr.2:

At the Kevin Perry Senior meet, it was really neat to watch swimmers like Brent Lee,  Jedric Minano,  David Kugler put together some really good racing. It’s fun when you can see the fruits of their labor play out.  Our training is very specific and it always blows the swimmers mind away when I go back and talk to them about training paces in practice and splits they just swam. We had many good swims at the meet within the group.

The Cranberry Classic meet was just another opportunity to bring our training to the competition pool. I still see that kids need a lot of work on the mental aspect of swimming fast. Every day we do the physical aspect so this is always pretty much inline. The mental aspect is a bigger process and some swimmers just get there before others.

Looking forward to Sectionals coming up in two weeks. Should be fun!

Community Outreach

November was one of the most tragic months in the history of our Santa Clarita Valley.  To honor those lives that were lost as well as show unending support for our swimmers, coaches, families and our SCV community, our swimmers came together SaugUStrong at the Cranberry Classic Meet.

Santa Clarita Food Pantry Drive at the Cranberry Classic

We’re so proud of our Paseo Aquatics families and the many donations to the food pantry drive at the Cranberry Classic!  Our team won 1st Place for donating 1259 items!  These items will help feed those in need this winter!  Thank You Paseo Families for your continued support of our Community Outreach efforts

Silver families, please login to your www.PaseoAquatics.org site to register to bring items for the Silver Bridge to Home Community Giving Event being held Dec. 19thth ‘Our swimmers will be assembling lunches for over 75 individuals at the Bridge to Home Winter Shelter.

Each month we will offer a segment on Parent Education, hoping to share insight and information on becoming the best possible parent-of-a-club-swimmer you can be. This issue taps into a SwimSwam article dedicated to truly understanding why you must be the best parent and NOT your child’s coach…TRUST the process and your coaches.42

One month leading into Championship season. All athletes should start emphasizing doing a lot of post workout exercises. Stretching, rolling out, icing etc. Ideally it would be nice if they did everyday but this at least establishes a positive habit.
