King & Queen of Sprints meet report

Westbrook SEALs

King & Queen of Sprints

Hosted by Westbrook SEALs @ Westbrook

Saturday, November 9th & Sunday, November 10th

Energy was high on the pool deck at the annual King & Queen of Sprints meet at Westbrook in mid-November. The meet is always a great opportunity to participate in a trials/finals formatted local meet, and though not everyone gets a “guaranteed” second chance to swim their race or races a second time, swimming in trials to try to earn a second swim in an energetic atmosphere is important to each swimmer’s development.

Having the opportunity to observe the meet from the stands and talk with other parents was an enjoyable experience as well. When on deck and living moment to moment and swim to swim there is no chance to take a real objective look at everything going on – everything is divided, mentally, to give each swimmer the attention they need to their race, and provide feedback that is good and useful to their progress.

From the stands, there was a chance to see the entire program; what was very enjoyable to watch was parents cheering for swimmers other than their own, and how each swimmer had a contingent of cheering teammates. These are things that have always set PPSC apart, and it is an atmosphere that is encouraging, supportive, and nurturing. It’s an atmosphere where children can strive for personal improvement and beyond what they may believe what they are capable of. It is an atmosphere in which they can thrive. It was great to be able to see that for the first time from a parent’s perspective.
