Sienna second high point at Arena, Top times at Arena and Shawano

ASC was at 2 meets this past weekend.  Some of us went to the Arena Challenge, a prelim-final meet at Waukesha South HS which hosted some of the faster swimmers from mostly Southern Wisconsin, Iowa and Illinois while others remained a bit more local at a small meet in Shawano.

At Arena, ASC improved 37 of 63 events for 59% best times.  Traditionally, we have been below 50% improvement because it is only a few weeks after the WGLO meet, and often they are swimming the same events.  Sienna Nitke was second high point, winning the 50, 100, 200 and 500 FR in the 13-14 girls age group in times that were very near Futures cuts.  Other Finalists were Alex Smits, Anthony Hendrickson, Andrew Hodek, Maia Smet and Trevor Dietzler.  Parker Bohm and Barrett Van Laanen also scored in the top 16 swimmers.

Trevor Dietzler scored a state cut in the 50 Fly and 50 BK, Parker Bohm in the 50 FR, and Alex Smits in the 500 FR.

Parker Bohm improved 100 BK, 100 Fly, 100 FR, 50 BK, 50 Fly and 50 FR

Kaige Coppens improved 100 FR, 100 IM and 50 BK.  His time in the 100 IM was faster than his improvement at Shawano the day prior.

Trevor Dietzler improved 100 BK, 100 Fly, 100 FR, 50 BK, 50 Fly and 50 FR

Anthony Hendrickson improved 100 BR and 50 FR, and was especially fast on his leg of the 200 FR relay

Andrew Hodek  improved 100 and 500 FR

Nick Hodek didn’t get a best time, but remained a good teammate all weekend

Ryan Jadin improved 50 and 200 FR

Sienna Nitke improved 100 Fly, 200 FR, 200 IM and 500 FR

Erin Schuch swam the same events at WGLO and it is difficult to improve from those

Madison Seder improved 50 FR

Maia Smet improved 100 BK, 200 BK, 100 FR, 200 Fly, 200 FR and her lead off leg of the FR Relay

Alex Smits improved 200 BK, 200 Fly, 200 IM, 500 FR, 100 BK

Barrett Van Laanen improved 100 FR and 50 BK

Kelly Vyskocil improved 100 BK and 50 FR

At Shawano, 11 new swims and improved 50 out of 87 best times for 57% best times and 7 DQ’s.  Part of what made improvements difficult is the smaller meet which went fairly quick.  At least the small meet meant you all could see the Packers.

Talen Coppens scored a new Single Age Champ cut in the 25 FR

Elodie Beno swam a new 100 Fly and improved 50 BR, 50 FR, 25 BK, 25 FR

Isaiah Clayton swam a new 100 BR and improved 100 and 200 FR

Neveah Clayton improved 100 BR and 200 IM

Kaige Coppens improved 100 IM, 100 FR and 50 Fly

Talen Coppens improved 25 BR, 25 Fly and 25 FR

Our last meet this year is the 12 & U Single Age Championships in Brown Deer.  There’s still time to sign up for GBSC, HSSB, A+ and our own ASC invite.

There are some who are eligible to represent Team Wisconsin at a selection meet in Indianapolis January 5-6.  One must have A times as a boy and AA times as a girl.  Simply the way it is with the numbers of girls in Wisconsin Swimming.  From those applying to the team, the coaches take the top 4 per event for their line up.  Reports are they are looking for 10 & U swimmers and are light in all age groups, so if interested, please consider applying by contacting Mike White at Wisconsin Swimming.  Look up the contact information on the Wisconsin Swimming website.  Deadline for application is right after Single Age State.
