We are, once again, pleased to be collecting donations for the Fran Crippen Elevation Foundation.
The foundation, named in honor of Fran, is a national nonprofit created by athletes for athletes. It is the mission of the Fran Crippen Elevation Foundation to 'pay it forward' by supporting athletes while they pursue their athletic dreams. "Paying it Forward" was a dream of Fran's as he searched for a way to express his gratitude for all that had been done for him as he pursued his own dreams as a swimmer.
Fran died while swimming the last race of FINA's 2010 10K series in Fujairah, UAE, having won the penultimate race in Cancun, Mexico, the weekend before. The Fran Crippen Elevation Foundation was developed by Fran's family and friends to continue Fran's legacy. The Foundation empowers athletes who exemplify the principles Fran embodied as they journey to elevate themselves, by providing aid for athletes as well as advocating for safe competitive environments.
Fran was a very dedicated and highly accomplished swimmer first in the pool, and then in open water competition. Close to home for all of us at Berkeley Aquatic Club, Fran not only competed at our CeraVe Meet (then called Burgdorf), but long held the Meet record for the 800 Freestyle. (His record was broken just a few years ago by one of his own teammates!)
It has become a BAC Winter Invite tradition that we recognize Fran on the last night of the Meet with a moment of silence and a presentation to his family and/or team. It will be our pleasure to carry on this tradition again at this year’s BAC Jim Wood Memorial Winter Invitational Meet sponsored by SPEEDO where we will have the honor of presenting our BAC gift to Fran’s parents, Pat and Pete Crippen.
In support of this tribute and presentation, we are asking for contributions of any size.
While supplies last, BAC Baseball Caps are available for anyone making a donation of $25.00 or greater. Please see Tristan at BAC to make a contribution. Please make checks payable to BAC (or cash).
Collections will continue at Rutgers University during the BAC Jim Wood Memorial Winter Invitational Meet.
